The Nurse Practitioner - Midwife evaluates, examines, diagnoses, and treats patients, in collaboration with an attending physician, according to established protocols, while maintaining and promoting the wellbeing of the individual through preventative health care and guidance.
Essential Job Functions
- Manages the physical and psychological problems of the patient.
- Identifies normal and abnormal findings.
- Implements an individualized plan of treatment, reassess and revises plan as needed.
- Evaluates the physical and emotional responses to medications and treatments.
- Prescribes immunizations per recommended schedules.
- Seeks appropriate consultation.
- Communicates effectively with the physician and other healthcare providers to achieve desired outcomes and assure a continuous flow of patient care.
- Initiates and maintains the Problem/Medication list at each encounter.
- Complies with completeness, accuracy, and timeliness of documentation at each encounter.
- Assesses the patient and facilitates consultation when indicated.
- Directs patients to appropriate level of care and communicates all pertinent information.
- Assists in identifying and utilizing resources and/or social agencies for further treatment or rehabilitation.
- Demonstrates Leadership by utilizing the concepts inherent to the practice of the professional nurse.
- Demonstrates an ability to solve problems independently utilizing critical thinking skills and seeks assistance from immediate supervisor when appropriate.

- Adheres to infection control processes, including standard precautions, to reduce the risk of acquiring or transmitting infections.
- Utilizes two forms of patient identification before implementing any form of patient care.

- Assists in the department's compliance with all regulatory agencies.
- Participates in continuous survey readiness for inspections and survey's.
- Participates in the non-punitive medication reporting system.
- Ensures accountability for narcotics per regulatory/organizational policies.
- Participates in office fire, safety, utility, hazard, and disaster drills as required.
- Participates in on-call, weekend coverage, and first assist responsibilities as required.
- Other duties as assigned.
Specialty Job Functions
- Rounds on inpatient with appropriate consults.
- Triage patient calls after hours.
- Assist with C-Sections and gynecologic surgeries.
- Management and delivery of routine obstetrical patients.
Competency and Experience [Knowledge, Skills and Abilities]
Required Qualifications/Experience
- Certified Midwife
- The successful completion of an approved nurse practitioner program.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing.
- Strong leadership ability, good organizational skills, independent thinking and decision-making ability, analytical problem solving skills, sound judgment, excellent oral and written communication skills, must be able to function in a team environment, and knowledge of legal aspects and liability of nursing practice.
- Demonstrate the skills necessary to provide care and appropriately treat patients.
- Provide the care needs as described in the department policy and procedures.
Preferred Qualifications/Experience (please add any additional requirements)
- Master’s Degree in Nursing preferred.
- Professional nursing experience and/or nurse practitioner experience preferred.
- Experience in Healthcare setting.
License, Certification & Clearances (please add any additional requirements)
- Current licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Pennsylvania.
- Licensed as a Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner (CRNP) with prescriptive authority certified by a national certifying board accepted by Excela Health.
- Current DEA registration.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required.
- PA Act 153 Clearance.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
- Incumbent will be scheduled based on operational need (rotate shifts, standby, on-call, etc.).
- Travel may be expected locally between System locations.
