QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma/GED or equivalent working knowledge preferred
- 5+ years of orthopedic surgery scheduling experience or 7+ years of surgery scheduling experience in other specialties.
- Demonstrated capabilities in training others.
- Must be able to communicate effectively with physicians, patients, and the public and be capable of establishing good working relationships with both internal and external customers.
- Ability to maintain patient confidentiality.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Coordinates schedules of multiple resources, including outside facilities (i.e., providers, physical resources, and clinical staff schedules).
- During the financial counseling session, collects patients’ responsibility via telephone or instructs patients to bring the required payment to their Pre-op appointment.
- Initiate authorization for surgery promptly. Obtain authorization for surgery at least 48 hours before the procedure. If authorization is not obtained within 48 hours of the procedure, make plans to reschedule the procedure.
- Call patients to schedule surgery within 48 hours of being entered into referral plus by the medical assistant and schedule all pre-op and post-op appointments for the patient.
- Assists with training new schedulers and retraining after process updates.
The Surgery Scheduler II is responsible for making reservations at the hospital, arranging, anesthesia, and communicating with PCP offices.
