Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Controller provides total financial support for the Manchester, CT location to ensure consistency with corporate policies, procedures and guidelines and provide adequate controls for monitoring of corporate assets. As a key member of the facilities leadership team, the controller is expected to partner with the site’s leadership team to identify and execute key business objectives.  They will have responsibility for setting key financial performance indicators and effectively communicating financial analysis, guidance, and recommendations to management to improve financial performance. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead, control and manage all financial activities, transactions, and resources (people and processes) of the facility including cost accounting, general accounting, inventory accounting, payroll accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, profit planning, earnings estimates, other forecasts and special economic analysis.
  • Ensure accurate consolidation and timely reporting of the site’s financial information in compliance with ITW policies, local laws, and GAAP.
  • Effectively communicate and coordinate the exchange of financial information to key stakeholders – explaining data to management to drive business decisions.  Help identify specific problems of the business and aid stakeholders in the analysis of day-to-day problems.
  • Serve on the site leadership team to drive a positive culture of engagement and accountability.
  • Provide direction and assistance to all departments for preparation of the annual budget and annual plan used to measure and evaluate the financial status of the region/unit.
  • Champions the ITW Business Philosophy and uses company business processes and tools and sound judgement to analyze processes, identify and act on areas to reduce risk, complexity and/or cost savings. 
  • Lead preparation of and provide direction and assistance to all departments in the preparation of the annual budget and annual plan used to measure and evaluate the financial status of the site. The Controller prepares the annual plan used to measure and evaluate the financial status of the unit.
  • Identify, lead and develop talent to maximize individual, team and organizational effectiveness in meeting company goals. This may include selecting and on-boarding talent, communicating effectively to foster a culture of engagement, cascading vision, creating goal alignment, and coaching through feedback, development planning and performance management.
  • Responsible for review, implementation, and documentation of internal controls (specifically the ITW ICQ questionnaire and the Top 13 Controls).  The Controller also ensures that we are striving for above average results in any internal audits. 
  • Primary contact with governmental agencies with respect to payroll, VAT and other reporting.
  • Assists the Division Controller in various reporting, analysis, financial commentary, & strategic insight including preparation of long-range plan (LRP), monthly, mid-month, and quarterly outlooks and reporting
  • Teamwork: Actively participates in teams by contributing to operating unit’s goals, offering input and new ideas.
  • Internal Customer Satisfaction: Builds partnerships with internal customers by regularly demonstrating a high level of expertise and professionalism. Keeps internal customers informed of timelines and action plans. Independently assesses and effectively responds to internal customers’ requests. Implements solutions by following company policies and procedures. Follows through on commitments made to internal customers.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Maintains focus on continuous improvement by applying 80/20, PLS, and USa principles/techniques and makes process improvement recommendations to management.

Qualifications

Education:  Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field, and / or a qualified ACCA/CIMA/ACA/CPA.

Experience/Skills: 

  • 7-10 years of accounting experience preferably in a manufacturing environment. 
  • 3+ years of experience managing accounting teams or direct reports. 
  • Experience of ERP implementation is preferred.
  • Strong leadership ability with ability to influence.
  • Ability to function as a business partner with all senior executives and their staff.
  • A continuous improvement mentality, with a capacity and energy to challenge the status quo and drive change throughout the organization.
  • Ability to identify and articulate problems, propose alternative solutions, have factual backup for decisions and question prior decisions if the result does not materialize as previously projected.
  • Strong cost accounting skills developed in manufacturing environments.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills are required.
  • Proficient in the knowledge of and use of MS Office (Word, Excel).
