Job Description
Position Summary
As a key member of the ITW Hartness Finance Team, the Cost Accountant will report to the Accounting Manager and be responsible for performing cost accounting duties related to cost of sales and margin reporting, inventory valuation and reporting, physical inventory counts, standard cost rolls, journal entry and account reconciliation preparation, and variance analysis as well as other finance duties, as needed. This team member will be a member of a mid-size team of accounting specialists and will also collaborate with colleagues across functional areas to help the organization meet its goals.
Key Responsibilities
Cost Accounting
- Maintain the Cost of Sales report and distribute monthly
- Prepare inventory and cost accounting journal entries and account reconciliations
- Perform material standard cost rolls weekly and annually
- Perform and support material variance analysis
- Maintain accurate inventory valuation
- Calculate and maintain an Inventory reserve in compliance with Corporate policy
- Calculate and report Inventory-related performance metrics
- Support annual Physical inventory count and related reporting
- Maintain and provide accurate cost and margin data to support business forecasting
- Support the annual calculation and implementation of Labor and Overhead application rates
- Implement improvements with respect to Cost Accounting processes
General Duties
- Apply ITW principles (80/20, Simplification, Segmentation) to eliminate complexity, simplify processes, and increase efficiency and reporting accuracy
- Support forecasting accuracy and strategic decision-making
- Support the implementation of a new ERP system (Microsoft Dynamics 365)
- Perform other finance-related projects and tasks as needed to support organizational objectives
Qualifications
Job Requirements
- BS/BA degree in Accounting or Finance
- 3+ years of general ledger and/or cost accounting experience
- Experience in manufacturing preferred
- Experience in a standard cost environment preferred
- AS400 experience a plus
- Strong interpersonal and time management skills
- Positive attitude and team player mentality
- Strong attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines
- Highest level of integrity and honesty in line with ITW Hartness values
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and an ability to learn new software
