Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY:

This person is a key partner on the custom feeder team.  This individual ensures cattle pens, waterers, and barn cleanliness are up to par. This includes, but is not limited to, cleaning pens with a skid steer, cleaning water tanks, repair and maintenance of feed bunks, installation and repair of water tanks, and general pen repairs. Reliability and the ability to multi-task are key to success in this position. Position is responsible for maintenance, maintaining accurate records on PM’s, repairs, and upkeep. Basic animal handling under BQA requirements is essential; you will be handing cattle for doctoring, shipping/receiving, and pen movements.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBIILITIES:

  • Inspect equipment and perform minor repairs and maintenance as needed.
  • Maintain pens under cover and clean water tanks.
  • Keep the yard neat and debris free.
  • Clean and repair feed bunks.
  • Maintain and operate equipment used for yard/barn maintenance.
    • Skid steer, tractor, loader.
  • Assist in achieving environmental objectives of custom feed barns.
    • Dust monitoring and subsequent adjustments.
    • Lagoon monitoring and maintenance.
    • Drainage monitoring.
    • Compost turning, piling, and loading.
  • Basic assistance in cattle health and handling.
    • Evaluating sick and lame cattle in pens.
    • Doctoring per protocol.
    • Receiving cattle off truck and into pens.
  • Utilize various maintenance tools.
    • Electric hand tools
    • Hand tools
  • Maintain a positive attendance record by demonstrating consistent and punctual attendance on a regular basis.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Strong work ethic.
  • Self-starter.
  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills.
  • Time management skills with the ability to prioritize and execute.
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
  • Excellent problem solving skills. 
  • Willing to work outdoors; inclement weather conditions can be expected.

EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION:

  • Heavy equipment operation.
  • Knowledge of cattle, animal well-being, and commodities.
  • Welding knowledge, preferred.
