WHAT YOU WILL DO:
The Kinship Counselor is an exempt position responsible for providing clinical services to relative and non-relative caregivers who are caring for dependent children under the jurisdiction of the Thirteenth Judicial Circuit in Hillsborough County, FL. This professional position will assist in strengthening and stabilizing relative and non-relative placements by providing intensive, specialized, therapeutic services in an effort to keep children from entering licensed care.
- Provide direct counseling to caregivers and children, in an effort to help meet the family’s needs to stabilize the placement.
- Provide therapeutic crisis intervention services, when needed, to assist in stabilizing families and ensuring safety for the children in care.
- Provide effective role modeling and monitor the families to ensure they are able to implement the new skills they have learned.
- Provide information, referral and follow-up for appropriate ancillary community counseling, psychiatric services, financial, employment, parenting, housing, and other services as deemed appropriate to meet family needs.
- Complete a clinical strength based comprehensive assessment; family support plan; and transition plan with all families where an intake was completed. Ongoing evaluation of client’s progress on therapeutic goals is required.
- Termination session will be completed to ensure all therapeutic goals have been achieved and any needed wrap around services are in place.
- Attend meetings, staffing's, and court hearings with caregivers, as needed, to serve as an advocate on their behalf.
- Provide weekly collateral contact with CMO Case Management and other professional team members to ensure continuity of care.
- Provide on call services as assigned, abiding by program on-call policy and procedure.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED:
- Bachelor’s degree in social work or a related area of study required; Master’s Level Counselor is preferred.
- Bachelor’s Degree in social work or a related area of study, in addition to three years of counseling experience may be considered. Counseling experience is required with the ability to demonstrate proficient therapeutic skills in helping families resolve issues related to loss; crisis; emotional or behavioral disturbance; untreated mental health; substance abuse; violence and any other related experience resulting in dysfunction in the home and maladaptive coping skills among family members.
- Master's Degree in social work or a related area of study, in addition to a minimum of one (1) year counseling experience preferred.
- Registered interns for licensure in social work and counseling preferred.
- Must participate in continuing education/training each year.
- Must have a valid drivers' license and proof of auto insurance.
