General Summary

The Zero Emission systems team is looking for a technical professional to join the Zero Emissions Systems Team (ZEST) and play a pivotal role in supporting the analysis and proposals that impact our research initiatives in mitigating methane emissions, and decarbonizing gas infrastructure. The ideal candidate will have excellent written communication skills, and a demonstrated ability to contribute effectively across multiple projects with cross-functional teams and a technical understanding of the energy industry. Work Location

The position has the option to be remote in the United States or can be based locally out of our headquarters in Des Plaines, IL. We offer a hybrid/core work week, where employees are remote Mondays and Fridays, and on-site Tuesday through Thursday.

Key Responsibilities
  • Understanding of Methane Emissions and Gas Infrastructure Analysis
    • Conduct in-depth analysis and prepare relevant literature reviews and memos in support of NZIP and methane emission mitigation research objectives
    • Stay updated on the latest (federal and state) policy and regulatory developments related to mitigating methane emission and the role of gas infrastructure in decarbonization pathways
  • Familiar with the Integration of Research and Policy
    • Collaborate with research teams (especially with the Net Zero Infrastructure Program (NZIP) and methane emissions projects) to align initiatives with policy and regulatory trends
  • Stakeholder Engagement
    • Engage with internal and external stakeholders including government agencies, other non-profit organizations, industry groups, and academic institutions
    • Where appropriate, prepare comments for public submission to regulatory and policy proceedings
  • Familiar with Data Collection and Data Analysis
    • Collect and analyze data on policy impacts related to methane emissions and gas infrastructure
    • Leverage data-driven insights to develop actional insights that improve impact and quality of research projects

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics
  • Knowledge of energy and environmental policies and understanding of energy systems and associated emissions preferably with specific understanding of natural gas utilities and issues related to the energy transition (knowledge in either methane emissions/energy equity considerations/gas infrastructure at the federal and state levels would be a bonus)
  • Proficiency in translating complex into actional recommendations
  • Self-starter capable of managing and prioritizing multiple projects independently with ability to meet project milestones and demonstrated ability to work collaboratively (and in a remote environment, if applicable)
  • Strong verbal, written and presentation skills especially in preparing written reports and memos
  • Intellectual curiosity and interest in energy and emissions-related topics
  • Excellent research, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Potential for travel for industry events, customer site visits, and field demonstrations or deployments
Education and Experience
  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in public policy, economics, or related field (Master’s degree preferred)
  • At least 2-5 years of energy-related work experience preferably in energy sector
