Work Location
The position will be based in the Chicagoland area at the GTI Energy Headquarters. We offer a hybrid/core work week, where employees are remote Mondays and Fridays, and required to be on-site Tuesday through Thursday.
Primary Responsibilities
Working with Technicians and Project Engineers, the Engineer will be expected to design, setup, and execute experimental test programs, contribute to analytical and simulation-based studies, and maintain strong communication with Project Managers, internal stakeholders, and project partners and sponsors. The Engineer is expected to take a systematic approach to handle multiple assignments, understand individual project goals and develop new competency areas as required to succeed in each project cycle. In this role, you will also:
• Design, assemble, and commission experimental apparatuses intended to investigate the impacts and optimized use of various energy sources, including hydrogen, with advanced combustion or other energy conversion systems.
• Effectively direct and collaborate with technician and project engineering staff, including the development and maintenance of experimental documentation such as, but not limited to, mechanical and electrical drawings, software flow diagrams, standard operating procedures, and job safety analyses.• Execute experimental and field investigations of a variety of energy systems, at bench-scale or full system-scale, while meeting project timelines within budget, and complying with all safety protocols
• Design, assemble, and commission experimental apparatuses intended to investigate the impacts and optimized use of various energy sources, including hydrogen, with advanced combustion or other energy conversion systems.
• Effectively direct and collaborate with technician and project engineering staff, including the development and maintenance of experimental documentation such as, but not limited to, mechanical and electrical drawings, software flow diagrams, standard operating procedures, and job safety analyses.• Execute experimental and field investigations of a variety of energy systems, at bench-scale or full system-scale, while meeting project timelines within budget, and complying with all safety protocols
• Perform other duties as assigned
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics
• Deep Interest in learning new skills and energy technology topics
• Prior research experience in a laboratory setting
• Fundamental understanding of mechanical engineering principles, including sizing and design, fluid mechanics, heat transfer, combustion and energy conversions
• Experience with instrumentation, data acquisition and control systems specifications (e.g., National Instruments hardware and software), programming experience is a plus
• Familiarity with common laboratory tools, construction materials, general plumbing and electrical
• Individuals who are self-motivated and able to work independently with direction
• Excellent computer literacy
• Prior research experience in a laboratory setting
• Fundamental understanding of mechanical engineering principles, including sizing and design, fluid mechanics, heat transfer, combustion and energy conversions

Education and Experience
• Minimum of a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical or related Engineering discipline; Relevant Industry Certifications are a plus (Licensed Professional Engineer, LEED AP, CEM, etc.)
• Minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience desired or an advanced degree in the abovementioned engineering fields.
• Demonstrated hands-on experience designing and executing experimental investigations.
• Your past professional experience in these areas is highly valued, but so are your personal abilities and willingness to learn. All candidates with the appropriate skill sets will be considered
