General Summary

GTI Energy, the nation’s leading research, development, deployment, and training organization serving energy markets, has an opportunity for an Electrical Engineer in our Research & Engineering group. This position is within a group of engineers and scientists that bring technological solutions to a broad range of energy project developers, utility companies, and end-users. The qualified candidate will apply engineering practices to the development and deployment of sensors, electronics, and instrumentation. This person will also work within the structure of an overall project team and work independently on sub-tasks.

Work Location

The position will be based in the Chicagoland area at the GTI Energy Headquarters. While local candidates are preferred, GTI Energy provides relocation assistance for the right candidate. We offer a hybrid/core work week, where employees are remote Mondays and Fridays, and required to be on-site Tuesday through Thursday.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Bring technological solutions to a broad range of energy project developers, utility companies, and end-users.
  • Apply engineering practices to the development and deployment of sensors, electronics, and instrumentation.
  • Participate in developing requirements from customer needs.
  • Research and identify components, hardware, software that match design specifications.
  • Document work in written, graphical, and presentation formats.
  • Assist in the hands-on construction and deployment of prototypes.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics
  • Proficient with laboratory bench instrumentation, prototype construction, and troubleshooting
  • Experience with cloud side platforms such as Losant, ThingsBoard, AWS, Azure
  • Familiarity with wireless protocols such as LoRa, LTE, MQTT
  • Experience with analytical tools such as MATLAB, PowerBI, or Python
  • Experience with rapid prototyping tools such as Node Red or Micropython
  • Familiarity with National Instruments LabVIEW tools is a plus
  • Embedded C/C++ firmware development with STM32 or other ARM families is a plus
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD, Eagle, KiCad, or SolidWorks is a plus
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering
  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience after a B.S.
  • A minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience after an M.S.
