Position Overview:
The Furnace Shift Supervisor oversees people and processes within furnace operations to ensure safety, productivity and customer requirements are met. This position works a 5:30pm-5:30am overnight shift on a 4 days on/4 days off work schedule.
Critical Success Criteria:
- Ensure employees follow safety and environmental health procedures to help protect people and the environment.
- Make critical operations decisions with minimal consultation that are necessary to keep the plant running safely and efficiently.
- Plan and schedule staff to meet daily production needs.
- Oversee, coach, and train employees to be the best they can be in their jobs so that they have a successful career and future at GR, as well as ensure high quality, and safe production.
Responsibilities:
- Build trust with production crews and fellow Shift Supervisors, leading by example through positivity, integrity, and a strong ethical compass
- Develop production staff to ensure they are properly trained on operating procedures, operation of equipment, and safety guidelines
- Identify process improvement opportunities
- Plan and schedule shift work according to operational demand and hourly staff on the shift; coordinate the plan with entire team
- Conduct rounds to check on all gauges, controls, equipment, and document stats on log sheets for permanent record keeping
- Take immediate action, as necessary, in production plant regarding safety issues, production standards deviations, and other operating problems that arise during the course of production
- Review maintenance work performed during the shift to ensure productivity is on track; adjust maintenance priorities as necessary to reflect any critical malfunctions during the shift
- Report shift statistics at the end of shift and assists the next Shift Supervisor with the transition to ensure continuous operation of the plant; make rounds with incoming Shift Supervisor to review the status of the plant prior to shift change
Requirements:
- High School Diploma or GED minimally required
- Previous work experience supporting heavy industrial manufacturing operations and environments
- Previous supervisory experience that includes coaching, delegating, and performing disciplinary action
- Passion for collaborative teamwork and ability to unify people towards common goals
- Ability to maintain composure during stressful situations and diffuse conflict
- Ability to communicate information and work directives in a clear and concise manner
- Experience utilizing technology to include MS Office (Outlook and Excel)
- Strong problem-solving skills
- Proactive nature with strong sense of urgency and prioritization
Preferred Qualifications:
- Postsecondary degree in Engineering, Management, Operations, or related field from accredited school preferred, but not required
- Lean/Six Sigma training/experience preferred, but not required
- Proficient technical skills in mechanical engineering and maintenance of machinery and equipment preferred, but not required
