Communications Specialist – Public Relations and External Communications

The Communications department is currently seeking a Communication Specialist (PR and External Communication) with strong writing skills and public relations experience to join their team! Goodwill Industries of the Southern Rivers, Inc.’s Communication Specialist responsibilities:
- Writes, produces, and edits videos sharing GoodwillSR’s client and team member success stories
- Creates production schedule and coordinates photo shoots and video shoots
- Interviews candidates and writes stories to appear on the GoodwillSR blog and Goodwill TV
- Shares GoodwillSR stories, posts, flyers, video, etc. on social media channels and with the GoodwillSR Board of Directors
- Creates ideas/topics to pitch to news media for monthly organizational coverage
- Sends press releases and media alerts to promote events, programs, success stories, announcements, etc.
- Coordinates segments and interviews, including providing a b-roll, shot list, and background material for coverage
- Develops crisis communications planning and messaging
- Manages relationships with editorial partners and seeks new TV, radio, print, and digital outlets
- Creates templates, flyers, manuals, guides, etc. to promote the Mission, job fairs, events and initiatives
- Creates web pages on goodwillsr.org
- Submits applicable awards and recognition opportunities
- Manages input on advertising schedule to best maximize budget
- Creates talking points and scripts for advertising shows
- Assists with scripts and Public Service Announcements as needed
- Performs strategic planning and support for team member initiatives and quarterly events
- Creates talking points for CEO town halls, speeches, State of the Union videos, etc.
- Creates materials, reports, letters, interactive forms/documents, etc.
- Updates 990 narratives annually and contributes content to the annual report
- Performs other related duties as assigned by the Director of Communications
Requirements:
- Level of knowledge normally gained through completion of an undergraduate degree
- Minimum 3 years experience in journalism, advertising and/or public relations or related field
- Knowledge of public relations, including pitching to and maintaining relationships with the press
- Knowledge of media buying/advertising
- Knowledge of social media and CMS systems
- Knowledge of Adobe Programs
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
