Founded in 1890, Glen-Gery Corporation is one of the nation’s largest brick manufacturers and operates nine brick manufacturing facilities and one manufactured stone facility. Glen-Gery products are sold nationally through a network of over 500 distributors as well as in Canada.

Duties and Responsibilities       

Yard Supervisor Safety Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for safe operation of all yard, packaging and sampling processes including coordinating department safety training for all employees, both individual & group level, and maintaining all training documentation as required.
  • Responsible for the implementation of pre-start inspections and maintaining the safety standards of the forklift fleet in accordance with all GG Safety Policies and Procedures.
  • Organize and coordinate Safety Toolbox Talks as required.
  • Responsible for Safety, Quality and Housekeeping audits in all responsible departments.
  • Responsible for accident investigations in their department.

Yard Supervisor Responsibilities

  • Product quality meeting all established GG quality standards for final packaged product. Understand product quality requirements, participate in product grading and assessment, and training of all responsible staffing to maintain, or exceed this standard.
  • Manage the inventory storage and handling process, ensuring production can continue effectively and all preparing product for loading and delivery.
  • Lead monthly product inventory stocktakes, to find, report and resolve discrepancies in the yard.
  • Document yard movements and scrap as required.
  • Assist with verifying production numbers daily to ensure accurate inventory input.
  • Organize preventative maintenance/repairs on forklift and mobile equipment to decrease downtime of the fleet.
  • Yard crews consist of 4 – 6 employees.
  • Direct reports – yard forklift operators, line forklift operators, plant laborers as required:
    • Responsible for performance management of workers.
    • Responsible for inventory management, labor management and daily functions of the yard.
    • Vacation scheduling.
    • Maintaining hourly staffing
    • Responsible for enforcing discipline of employees when applicable, per Plant Rules and Plant Safety policies and Union CBA.
  • Monitor Key Performance Indicators and metrics to adequately control quality and costs of associated department.
  • Attend meetings with Operations management staff.
  • Monitor and improve efficiencies, reducing downtime in all associated departments.
  • Daily, weekly, and monthly reporting to plant management.
  • Responsible for Continuous Improvement (CI) activities in associated departments.

 Requirements and Skills:

  • Technical Degree or equivalent relevant work experience
  • 5-year minimum work experience in an industrial manufacturing work environment
  • Supervisory and management experience in an inventory, yard or warehouse environment
  • Computer skills, including but not limited to Microsoft Word and Excel
