Glen-Gery, one of the nation's leading leading brick manufacturers, is looking for a skilled and knowledgeable Maintenance Manager for it's plant location in Pittsburgh, PA. This person will work with the Plant Manager, Plant Supervisors, Unit Accountant and all office staff pertaining to the maintenance of the facility and all equipment in the plant, adequately supplying parts room, maintaining critical spare parts inventory, and maintaining mobile equipment and maintenance subcontractor activities.

Primary Job Function(s):

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for planning, directing and coordinating those activities concerned with the plant safety, design, construction, maintenance and improvement of the products,
  • equipment and physical plant. Responsibility includes maintaining, troubleshooting and overseeing repair of complex robotic, automated, electronic, hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical equipment. 
  • Responsible for the optimization of the equipment availability and the improvement of the maintenance cost of the operation. The Maintenance manager shares the responsibility of safeguarding the integrity of the assets of the company with the plant manager.
  • Creates, maintains and adjust cost-effective preventive and predictive maintenance programs, which are designed to minimize production downtime, maximize productivity and preserve a history of repairs and cost by individual equipment and/or electrical devices/machinery.
  • Supervises the activities of the maintenance employees. Promotes ongoing training, including hands-on participation with the maintenance crew to further develop required skills and to keep abreast of the latest technology.
  • Retrofits and redesigns existing equipment to provide maximum productivity at reduced costs.  Oversees maintenance of buildings and grounds, utilizing the maintenance department or outside contractors.
  • Assists in preparation of annual capital expenditure budgets as well as capital expenditure requests (justification) for the individual projects and determines the cost effectiveness of those projects by calculating the pay back periods and return on investment.
  • Prepares bid sheets, contracts and drawings for new construction and capital improvement projects. Tests newly-installed equipment to assure fulfillment of contract specifications.
  • Prepares and maintains short and long-range engineering and maintenance budgets, which provide cost breakdowns by department.
  • Maintains adequate levels of spare parts and materials by proper inventory management and storage.
  • Establishes standards and policies for pollution control in accordance with local, state and federal regulations; this includes proper testing, operating procedures, inspection and maintenance of equipment to comply with such regulations and assists in procurement of operating permits for the facility and its equipment.

 REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES

  • Be adaptable to and remain current with computerized equipment and plant process improvement
  • Working knowledge and experience in Predictive maintenance and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Ability to perform root cause analysis and problem solving skills using Continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Requirement to be able to lift up to 50lbs in weight
  • Ability to work under one own initiative
  • Ability to work under pressure and toward deadlines
  • Multi-tasking and the ability to juggle competing priorities
  • Participate as a part of a team

QUALIFICATIONS

  • B.S. degree in Mechanical, Industrial or Electrical Engineering.
  • 3 – 5 years practical and supervisory experience in maintenance and plant engineering in heavy industry, preferably brick, ceramics or refractories manufacturing or a closely-related industry.
  • Knowledge of PLC and robotics preferred.
  • Ability to work with and through maintenance, outside contractors, and production personnel at all levels to achieve plant and corporate goals.
  • Training and/or experience in: budgeting, quality assurance, heat transfer, instrumentation, fuel consumption control, computerized equipment installation and troubleshooting, equipment design, plant process improvement, statistical process control and OSHA and environmental compliance.
  • "Hands-on" approach to problem solving.  Detail oriented with a dedication to continuous improvement and team building.
  • Advanced computer skills and experience with Windows, Math CAD and Auto CAD.
