Germantown Friends School is seeking full- and part-time teacher assistants for the 2024-2025 school year in Kindergarten through 5th grade. Teacher Assistants support the mission of the school, including its commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and our Quaker identity. Candidates should enjoy engaging with curious, thoughtful children and collaborating with creative and intellectual colleagues.

Responsibilities:

  • Supervise student arrival, transitions, recess, lunch, and dismissal events.
  • Assist lead teachers in planning and preparation.
  • Support the learning environment through trust and respect.
  • Communicate with teachers about instructional goals and student learning.
  • Engage with students in all aspects of the learning process.
  • Foster relationships with students and colleagues.
  • Assist with the health, safety, and welfare of students and learning environments.
  • Work with individual students or small groups to reinforce class lessons.
  • Prepare classroom materials.
  • Assist teachers in the preparation, setting up, and supervision of learning centers.
  • Contribute to the language development of students through activities such as reading out loud and singing songs.
  • Guide students in independent study and enrichment work.
  • Participate in lessons and support their objectives.
  • Collect objective student data at the discretion of the teacher.
  • Assist teacher with a positive discipline approach in and out of the classroom.
  • Inform teachers of any social, academic, or personal issues that may arise.
  • Participate in school professional development workshops when scheduled.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student information.
  • Assist teachers with clerical work.
  • Assist teachers in keeping classroom learning displays current and tidy.
  • Assume the teacher’s duties and responsibilities when necessary.
  • Fully participate in the life of the school community.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Experience with children in a learning environment
  • Demonstrated desire to grow as an educator

Work Hours

  • Grades 1-5 Full-time Teacher Assistant and ASPire Team Member: 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
  • Kindergarten Full-time Teacher Assistant: 7:45 a.m. to 3:45 p.m.
  • Part-time Teacher Assistant: 8:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
