The Ideal Candidate
The Scrum Master – IS Portfolio Management is responsible for helping to oversee one or more Scrum teams. They are knowledgeable in the Agile Framework and able to educate others. They will act as a buffer for scrum team(s) and product owner(s) and protect the team from distractions both internal and external. The Scrum Master also facilitates meaningful conversation regarding team performance and facilitates conflict resolution where needed.
To work as a scrum master, you need to hold scrum master certification and the ability to think fast to help solve problems. Communication and leadership skills are a must as you will be communicating with scrum teams, external partners, vendors, internal customers, and senior leadership.
How You Will Make an Impact
- Facilitate and support all scrum events: Sprint Planning, Backlog Refinement, Daily Scrum, Sprint Review, and Sprint Retrospective.
- Guide and coach the scrum team on using Agile best practices and principles to deliver high quality product increments that deliver value to our customers.
- Help scrum team(s) identify areas of growth and build action plans to achieve better outcomes.
- Removing impediments and coaching the scrum team(s) on removing impediments.
- Resolve conflicts within the team and address underlying issues that occur.
- Provide guidance and feedback to help teams to achieve higher levels of Agile maturity and move teams towards being high performing by recognizing areas of strength and improvement and employing appropriate coaching and development techniques.
- Responsible for ensuring Agile Methodologies like Scrum and Kanban are understood and that teams adhere to agreed-upon guidelines and working agreements.
- Coach the scrum teams in self-organization, cross-functional skillset, domain knowledge and communicate effectively, both internally and externally working within the scrum team.
- Work with scrum teams, as well as internal and external stakeholders, to influence and drive decision making and support organizational projects or product teams.
- Contributes to the advancement and improvement of Agile practices within the organization.
Experience and Skills You'll Need to Have
- Knowledge of Agile frameworks or method (i.e. Scrum, Kanban), and a basic understanding of software development life cycle models.
- Exemplifies and promotes Agile values and principles.
- Outstanding communication, facilitation, negotiation, interpersonal, coaching, and mentoring skills.
- Able to provide clear written and presentation communication to multiple audiences, including customers, peers, and senior leadership.
- Adept at refinement, story splitting, estimation, velocity, retrospection, and other Agile techniques to aid team performance and tracking team output.
- Planning and problem solving with product management and delivery teams.
- Ability to analyze and think quickly and to resolve conflict.
- Ability to work with and lead a team.
- Ability to adapt to a changing environment.
- Proven sense of high accountability and self-drive to take on and see-through challenges.
- Established success in areas of impact for influence, cross group collaboration, and focus on positive outcomes.
- Bachelor’s degree and at least 2 years’ applying Agile principles, practices and theory for a software development team.
- Demonstrated experience facilitating meetings at multiple levels of an organization and an understanding of facilitation techniques.
- Strong knowledge of Agile principles and concepts.
- First Level Scrum Master Certification (CSM, PSM I).
- Experience working interchangeably with technical and business stakeholders.
- Previous experience working as a Scrum Master.
- Solid time management skills and experience working in a structured development cycle.
- Solid experience utilizing Atlassian tools, specifically Jira and Confluence, along with other work tools such as Lucid, and Smart Sheets.
- Expert knowledge in MS Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Able to work in matrixed organizations successfully.
- Experience creating and using JIRA boards and dashboards.
- Able to lead a team and is team oriented.
