Summary:

The Plumbing Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for troubleshooting, diagnosing, repairing and maintaining commercial Plumbing systems, ensuring that systems are operating efficiently and safely - including but not limited to: all domestic water, wet suppression, piped medical gas, sanitary systems, and other plumbing equipment and fixtures.

Supports, and is responsible for incorporating into job performance, the Frederick Health (FH) mission, vision, core values and customer service philosophy and adheres to the FH Compliance Program, including following all regulatory requirements and the FH Standards of Behavior

Essential Functions:
• Perform Preventive Maintenance, Repair and contractor coordination in support of Plumbing Maintenance program and CMMS.
• Upkeep of regulated Water Management Program, testing, maintenance and inspection and related documentation.
• Provide other maintenance, inspection and repair support to Facilities Management Department systems, equipment.
• Participate in planned/unplanned interruptions of various systems as needed.


Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Knowledge of troubleshooting, diagnosing, installation, repair and maintenance of commercial Plumbing system functions, piping, pumps, valves, fittings, fixtures and equipment including but not limited to:
     o Domestic Water Systems
     o Sanitary Systems
     o Grease Trap / Interceptor
     o Filtration Systems
     o Piped Medical Gas systems

• Familiarity interfacing to CMMS systems for PMs, Repairs, Projects and documenting activities.
• Read and interprets as-built building blueprints, technical diagrams, equipment manuals.
• Ability to recommend system modifications in accordance with applicable code and regulations.
• Strong technical aptitude to Plumbing systems and components.
• Familiar with tools and equipment used in the Plumbing Trade.
• Excellent communication, problem solving, analytical skills and able to work independently and within a team structure.

Minimum Requirements:

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• 1 year post High School Trade/Vocational coursework in Building Trades, Electrical, Plumbing, HVAC and 1 year of HVAC/Maintenance/Electrical/Plumbing experience in commercial setting.
• OR - 3 years HVAC/Maintenance/Electrical/Plumbing experience in commercial setting.
• OR - 2 years HVAC/Maintenance/Electrical/Plumbing Maintenance experience in acute care setting.
• Valid Driver’s license required.

Physical Demands:

Medium-Heavy Work – Lifting up to 75 pounds on an infrequent basis (less than one lift every three minutes) and/or carrying up to 35 pounds while walking. Pushing or pulling up to 115 pounds infrequently or greater than 115 pounds occasionally (no more than once per hour).

Awkward Posture: Posture is the position your body is in and its effect on the muscle groups that are involved in the physical activity. Awkward postures include repeated or prolonged reaching, twisting, bending, kneeling, squatting, working overhead with your hands or arms, or holding fixed positions.

Contact Stress: Pressing the body hard on sharp edges can result in placing too much pressure on nerves, tendons, and blood vessels. For example, using the palm of your hand to hit or stick objects can increase risk of musculoskeletal disorders.
