The Medical Director provides direction and leadership in the areas of clinical care and quality, compliance, provider behavior, physician relations, standards of care, and provider productivity.In conjunction with the administrative dyad, the Medical Director shares in strategic planning, organizational alignment, culture, practice performance and staff relationships. Will be responsible for multiple Out-Patient Practices to include Urgent Care and Family Practice facilities.

Key Medical Director Roles:

Quality

  • Ensures all quality program initiatives are being implemented and met.
  • Leads other providers in adapting and adopting to new models and workflows.
  • Maintains quality by overseeing the continuous measurement, monitoring, documentation, review and outcomes of improvement plans in practice.Directs the identification of opportunities for improvement, development of action plans to achieve the improvements, guides the implementation of the action plans and assesses achievement of the desired outcomes.
  • Actively oversees and directs the practice’s medical staff to ensure effective and uniform practice and compliance with established medical group and health system’s operational and quality requirements.
  • Ensures all providers are actively involved in building positive referral relationships with internal and external referral sources at any given opportunity (e.g. thank you notes, phone calls, visits to the office, etc.)

Provider Development, Behavior, Physician Relations

  • Ensures an effective and robust new hire on-boarding program to include orientation and precepting for a successful relationship with Frederick Health.
  • Conducts 1:1 meeting with all direct reports every six months at a minimum.
  • Assists with the development plans and goals for each provider.
  • Ensures timely constructive feedback, coaching and mentoring with all with all providers and progresses to formalized action plans and counseling so that all issues are addressed.
  • In conjunction with the Division Medical Director develops annual practice goals and develops individual performance goals with each provider and monitors progress regularly.
  • Builds and models a culture of peer coaching in the group for all providers and obtains 360 peer feedback.Also gathers information from the Practice Manager and staff.
  • Develops and supports a collaborative team based work environment consistent with the values of Frederick Health. 

Compliance

  • Develops and coordinates the implementation of operational policies and procedures, including standards and protocols that guarantee compliance with regulatory agencies.

Patient Care

  • Fosters innovation in service offerings and delivery of care mechanisms which promote improved outcomes, patient, staff and provider satisfaction and lower cost of care.
  • Ensures standardization of clinical protocols where possible.
  • All workflows are presented in a standardized method to decrease variations.

Provider Production & Practice Performance

  • Ensures operational plans to achieve annual volume projections are met or exceeded Monitors each provider’s productivity trends, chart completion, billing levels, and assists with coaching as needed.
  • Makes certain that provider schedules are maximized with the KPI’s being monitored for new patient access, first-third available, and schedule utilization.

Key Roles in Conjunction with Dyad

  • Runs monthly site provider meetings and participates as dyad with the Practice Manager in monthly practice meetings.
  • Ensures are effective and timely to cover the agenda, achieve purpose and outcomes to achieve all goals and initiatives.
  • Serves as a contributor in the development of strategic initiatives.
  • Develops metrics and KPI’s with action planning for attainment of the identified performance measures.
  • Ensures bi-directional representation and communication of information and initiatives.
  • Participates in development and implementation of strategies and plans to sustain and grow the practice.
  • In collaboration with the Practice Manager, ensures an adequate clinical team staffing model and provides input on provider staffing plans.
  • In collaboration with the Division Medical Director, creates new program proposals and proforma.
  • In collaboration with dyad leadership, ensures adherence to organizational and practice/departmental policies, protocols, and guidelines.
  • Supports and guides clinical research conducted with and under the auspices of the practice program if applicable.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Must demonstrate ability to stay organized; is able to multi-task effectively.
  • Must demonstrate time management, conflict resolution, and trouble shooting skills.
  • Must demonstrate good interpersonal and communication skills.

Minimum Education, Training, and Experience Required:

  • Board Certified Physician.
  • Licensed to practice medicine (MD, DO, MBBS, DDS, DMD) in the State of Maryland.
  • Current DEA license.
  • Current Maryland Controlled Substance license
  • Current CPR Certification.
  • Experience leading a team of Physicians and Advance Practice Practitioners is preferred.
  • License to practice in any state has never been suspended or revoked.
  • Has not been excluded from participation from any Payers, including Medicare.
  • Prefer at least two years of experience as previous Medical Director or other leadership experience.
  • Has served in leadership roles, especially in the areas of quality and peer review.
  • Must have knowledge of computer skills.Experience with prior electronic medical records (EMR) is preferred.
