Director of Adult Emergency Department and Combined Inpatient/ED Pediatric Unit

Description

Responsible for the Adult Emergency Department, Combined Inpatient/ED Pediatric Unit (75,000 annual visits); and other departments as needed. The Director serves as a vital link between the larger vision of the healthcare institution and unit-based delivery of effective, efficient, high quality patient- and family-centered care.  The Director is accountable for assigned area(s) of responsibility seven days a week, 24 hours a day, to include approximately 165 FTEs. This position is vested with decision-making authority to implement strategies, programs, and patient care consistent with the institution's policies, goals and objectives; reporting to the VP Patient Care Services/CNO. 

Requirements

Licensed and registered as a professional nurse in the State of Maryland. Baccalaureate degree or higher from an accredited college/university in Nursing is required.  Master's degree in nursing or related field from an accredited college/university required.  Strong background in emergency nursing and a minimum of 5 years of management experience required. National specialty certification preferred in emergency nursing, Pediatrics, or leadership/management.

  • Coaching direct reports by providing constructive feedback and facilitating the development of their problem solving and decision-making skills

  • Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity and respect of all patients, families, visitors and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible and courteous environment

  Priorities:

  • Establish a strong professional relationship with direct reports, colleagues, medical staff, and other key stakeholders.  Demonstrate communication that is forthright and respectful.
  • Hardwire operational improvements in the Adult and Pediatric Emergency Department based on recent Lean initiative to achieve reduced wait times.
  • Empower teams to develop a culture focused on achieving excellent patient satisfaction results.  Ensure the consistent application of evidence-based strategies to continuously improve the patient experience and quality outcomes.
  • Ensure optimal financial performance in line with operating budgets.
  • Proactively evaluate staffing needs and implement strategies to ensure a plan for effective and appropriate skill mix and staffing levels.
  • Partner with direct reports and other key leaders to ensure continual readiness for accreditation survey by The Joint Commission.
  • Provide leadership for the assessment of new strategic initiatives in areas of responsibility to include ED and combined Inpatient/ED Pediatric Unit
  • Ensure collaboration to achieve an efficient throughput process and care continuum beyond the ED.

Schedule: Weekdays between 7:00AM - 5:00PM with visibility to night shift
