Position Summary:

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Senior Accountant to lead our accounting operations in a dynamic government contracting environment. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of federal contracting regulations, including FAR (Federal Acquisition Regulation), DCAA compliance, and Cost Accounting Standards (CAS). This role is responsible for overseeing the company’s accounting functions, ensuring compliance with government contract requirements, and supporting strategic financial planning.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the day-to-day operations of the accounting department, including general ledger, AP/AR, payroll, and billing.
  • Ensure timely and accurate month-end and year-end closings, financial reporting, and account reconciliations.
  • Oversee contract accounting and billing in accordance with FAR, CAS, and DCAA regulations.
  • Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local financial legal requirements.
  • Coordinate and support government audits, including DCAA incurred cost submissions and provisional billing rate proposals.
  • Develop and implement accounting policies and procedures to ensure compliance and operational efficiency.
  • Supervise and mentor a team of accountants and accounting staff.
  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis to support leadership decisions.
  • Collaborate with Program Managers and Contracts to ensure proper financial tracking of contracts, modifications, and funding.
  • Work in collaboration with HR department to perform insurance audits.
  • Support the implementation and optimization of accounting and ERP systems (e.g. Deltek Costpoint).

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • A minimum of seven (7) years of accounting experience, with a minimum of three (3) years in a government contracting environment.
  • Strong understanding of government contracting regulations (e.g. FAR, CAS, DCAA).
  • Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Hands-on experience with DCAA audits and submissions.
  • Experience with accounting systems used in GovCon environments (e.g. Deltek).
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and financial reporting tools.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and leadership skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Active Secret security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MBA degree.
  • Certified Public Accountant.
  • Experience managing indirect rate structures and cost pools.
  • Familiarity with timekeeping systems and labor distribution in GovCon settings.
