The Speech Therapist provides evidence based speech, language, cognitive-communication and swallow services to the medical center's acute care inpatients, and well as modified barium swallow studies for outpatients.
- Evaluation, reassessment, treatment and education are developed based on patients age specific needs particularly in the areas of body system function, cognition, speech language, hearing, swallowing function, psychological function, nutritional status and overall performance of functional activities.
- Applies appropriate tests to determine patient’s communication status, cognitive and linguistic status, memory, problem solving activities, oropharyngeal function, hearing/speech fluency and quality, voice.
- Reassesses the specific rehabilitation needs of each patient. Establishes realistic problem list and attainable goals appropriate to the setting. Makes necessary revisions to the plan of care, adjusting problems and goals as indicated.
- Educates and documents in the patient record instructions given to; patient, caregiver, family member or other health care personnel. Instructions prepare patient and family to follow through with treatment programs at home.
- Meets the productivity standards that have been set by management. Completes all documentation and patient care with accuracy and efficiency and within rehab guidelines.
- Makes referrals to other disciplines as indicated by the needs of the patient

- Speech Therapist License in Florida
- ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC)
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
Additional Information: Licensure in the State of Florida with ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence or strong CFY
candidate eligible for State of Florida Provisional Licensure with proof of passing score on the Praxis exam. PostEmployment: BLS, provided by American Heart Association (AHA), required within 30 days of hire.
Additional Information: Graduate of an ASHA accredited Speech Therapy program.
Skills and Abilities: Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to and communicate with primarily
geriatric population and to a lesser degree pediatric and adult. Excellent communication skills/team player. Ability to
