Required: Medical Technologist License in Florida or eligible for Medical Technologist in Florida

Required: Associate's Degree

Preferred: Bachelor of Science in Clinical Laboratory Science

Medical Technologist performs laboratory testing specific to the assigned section with accurate and timely results. All testing conforms to regulatory requirements with adherence to quality control rules, policies and procedures, as well as the maintenance of equipment. Medical Technologist is able to identify problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of results. Consistently documents and calls all critical values to a Health Care provider. Follows all safety policies including using appropriate PPE

  • Performs laboratory testing with accuracy and precision specific to the assigned section for the treatment and diagnosis of diseases.
  • Enter test results in the laboratory information system accurately and promptly. Documents and calls all critical values to a Health Care provider.
  • Adheres to the clinical laboratory’s quality control policies in performing, resulting, troubleshooting, and documenting all quality control activities. Issues unable to be resolved are reported promptly to Supervisor, Manager or Director.
  • Performs and documents preventative maintenance and troubleshooting records in order to maintain high quality laboratory service.
  • Is capable of identifying problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and either must correct the problems or immediately notify a supervisor or director.
  • Follows and reviews general laboratory, safety, and department policies and procedures.
  • Provide instruction and training in theory, technical skills, safety protocols, and laboratory procedures to students and employees.
  • Perform proficiency testing on external and internal specimens to adhere to regulatory requirements.
  • Monitors equipment and supplies to maintain adequate inventory levels for continuous operation and reports all deviations to department supervisor.
