The Eugene Water & Electric Board is currently seeking a senior level engineer to provide control system and electrical engineering support for Generation Department facilities. These facilities primarily include hydroelectric power plants and their ancillary systems (dams, fish screens, canals, etc.). The successful candidate will work on multi-disciplinary teams for new design, modification, and upgrade projects as well as troubleshoot operational incidents involving electrical and control systems. Assignments will include the oversight of work that is performed by consulting engineers, peer engineers, and technicians.

EWEB is in the process of performing various power plant upgrades. Upgrades include new control systems, HMIs, excitation systems, and various auxiliary systems. In addition to the power plant improvements, work will include the development of control systems for fish passage facilities (upstream trap & haul facilities as well as downstream fish gates) and flow control facilities (spillways) .

Responsibilities will include:

  • coordinating inspections of existing systems
  • performing analyses to select preferred alternatives for improvements
  • budgeting for implementation
  • preparing design drawings and specifications
  • preparing control narratives
  • providing field oversight of upgrade activities
  • commissioning electrical equipment and control systems
  • performing/overseeing HMI and PLC programming
  • developing standard operating/maintenance procedures for control systems
  • managing instrumentation and alarm systems
  • monitoring control systems performance

This individual will represent the utility with external organizations and at conferences and will participate in trainings as necessary to stay knowledgeable about important control system and electrical engineering issues.

This person’s background will allow them to perform assigned tasks with minimal supervision using a high level of experience and judgment in planning project assignments and accomplishing desired results. They will have the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing and the ability to interpret instrument diagrams, system maps and schematics, and related hardware and software documentation.                          

Senior Electrical Engineer: $112,745 - $140,931

Minimum Training and Experience Required:

Senior Electrical and Controls Engineer:  Minimum eight (8) years relevant experience in electrical and control system design and support.

Preferred Qualifications and Experience:   Advanced training in operating, configuring, programming, troubleshooting, and maintaining SCADA systems, particularly Allen Bradley SCADA systems, HMIs, and PLCs. Experience with SCADA application program and database support, writing SCADA command sequences, developing ladder logic and function block diagrams, graphical HMI screens and SCADA end user support. Experience with large scale water conveyance and hydroelectric power generation preferred.

Education:  Requires a Bachelor degree in engineering, or an equivalent combination of education and experience as required by Oregon Administrative Rules.

Professional license or registration:  Oregon PE or ability to obtain within 12 months.

Valid driver license: Yes, or the ability to obtain one within 30 days of being hired.

Work Location: This position is based in Eugene, Oregon, and has been approved for hybrid work arrangement involving a combination of telecommuting and working on-site. The selected candidate must live in the state of Oregon.
