Summary

The primary responsibilities of this position are to assist in the development and execution of HVAC projects group through design and performance analysis of building systems.  Applicants should have a degree in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology with at least 5 years of design experience or equivalent.  This position will also provide support to project managers, sales personnel to assure that projects are organized and performed safely and on time. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following. Other duties may be assigned:

  • Assist project managers and sales personnel with HVAC design projects in Residential, Commercial Complexes, Healthcare, Industrial Facilities, Education, and other institutional design.
  • Provide detailed design of HVAC systems
  • Calculate heating and cooling needs for projects
  • Interpret and draft plans including building construction plans, schematics and blueprints
  • Draft new plans to design ductwork and piping systems
  • Calculate ventilation requirements based on the types of systems needed and ensure that proper codes are being met
  • Coordinate with other trades including collaboration of with architects and engineers when designing heating and cooling systems
  • Adhere to all building codes to obtain proper building permits when necessary
  • Schedule visits to customer and/or potential customer sites w/ technicians, sales personnel, or as scheduled on your own to review sites and identify opportunities.
  • Provide project managers and salesman with preliminary budgets for project designs and engineering services.
  • Provide required field surveys as required for project managers and sales personnel.
  • Assist with project managers with final project costs, design drawings, manpower requirements, work schedules, materials, submittals and operations manuals as needed.
  • Keep records of work done for each client/opportunity.
  • Enforce corporate policy on safety, work ethics and time constraints.
  • Ensure that work is executed as scheduled and that only emergency jobs interrupt normally scheduled work.
  • Prepare or review reports on progress and adjust work schedules as required so that the results can be discussed during the weekly energy group meeting.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • This candidate should be familiar with the ASHRAE guidelines and local NYS codes
  • Time management to work within tight guidelines
  • Must have good communication skills to write budget estimates and speak with customers and company personnel
  • Analytical thinking to determine heating and cooling power needs for a specific spaces
  • The candidate should coordinate with the other disciplines
  • The ideal candidate must possess outstanding interpersonal skills and the ability to articulate conceptual ideas with clients and design engineers
  • The candidate must have the ability to multitask, working on many different heating and cooling projects at once
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Minimum 5 years experience for design engineers with related MEP engineering projects
  • Working knowledge of chiller piping, Load calculations, Duct sizing/layout, etc
  • Working knowledge of Pipe sizing / routing, developing riser diagrams, Gas routing etc.
  • Working knowledge of the following software programs:
    • AutoCAD, Trane Trace, Carrier HAP, EnergyPlus
    • Revit knowledge would be a plush
    • Microsoft Office Products, Excel, Word, Powerpoint
  • HVAC&R estimating experience is a plus
  • Able to deal with customers and others at all levels
