Job Title: Solar PV Design Engineer

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for successfully implementing all aspects of project design, engineering, permitting, interconnection, and procurement for Solar Photovoltaic and Battery Energy Storage Projects.
  • Review customer specifications and design criteria to gain a comprehensive understanding of the customers’ scope, schedule, and budget to create proper project design criteria.
  • After a design review, modify drawings and deliverables as needed.
  • Manage and own the 30/60/90/IFP Engineering and Design Submittal process for each project assigned.
  • Assist the sales team in developing bids and technical designs related to sales activities using helioscope and/or AutoCAD.
  • Work closely with Sales and Engineering to offer the best solution for each project.
  • Complete interconnection drawings, single line diagrams, bid sets, construction sets, and as-built drawings in addition to coordinating overflow of engineering with engineering vendors as needed for all solar and battery energy storage projects.
  • Work with utility companies on project coordination.
  • Work with the internal Operations team throughout project development and implementation.
  • Communicate with vendors and subcontractors throughout project development and implementation.
  • Visit job sites for project development, installation progress, punch-outs, etc.
  • Attend customer meetings and presentations throughout the sales cycle, if necessary.
  • Maintains records, files, controls, and procedures to ensure management and work production.
  • Engineering experience with solar photovoltaic projects
  • Strong knowledge of electrical and structural design components and solar equipment manufacturers
  • Good working knowledge of standard utility processes for interconnection approval and design requirements.
  • Will provide a BOM (Bill of Material) for all electrical components per project, system design drawings, bids, proposals, and RFIs and support during construction and commissioning.
  • Maintain design and proposal requirements, knowledge of codes and standards, design procedures, methods, and processes, and improve the efficiency of project development and project selection process.

Job Specifications (incl. Education requirements, minimal experience, computer skills required, etc.) 

  • BS/BA in a relevant field is recommended but not required, with adequate experience.
  • 5 years of related business experience required designing and managing solar projects.
  • Must be able to travel when needed within California, Nevada, and Arizona as required for site visits and customer meetings.
  • Ability to work with the customer, vendors, and finance partners to resolve difficult issues.
  • Must have good computer skills, including Excel, AutoCAD, and PowerPoint.
  • Experience providing technical support to energy-related projects with accountability for project performance and design.
  • Knowledge of submitting written proposals, scopes of work, scheduling, and coordinating site contractors and other assigned personnel; a thorough understanding of construction schedules and operations and the ability to meet demanding customer requirements.
  • Experience and knowledge of the design and construction process of commercial and industrial distributed generation solar PV projects.
  • NABCEP certification is a plus.
  • Experience and knowledge of Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, and solar modeling tools, including Helioscope.
  • Experience reading and understanding technical specifications and construction documents.
  • Experience with professional oral and written communication skills.
  • Valid driver’s license.

Compensation Range:  $80,000 - $120,000 Per Year
