Our corporate HR team is looking for an experienced Human Resources (HR) Manager who wants to:

About this Position

The HR Manager works on-site in New Castle, PA and provides HR support for the 75+ Corporate employees that work in New Castle, PA and across ELLWOOD’s divisions, and partners with the CHRO and other HR professionals to design and implement scalable HR solutions that improve HR efficiency and team member engagement.  The role requires the use of discretion and judgment as well as experience providing day-to-day HR functions, including positive employee relations, performance management, benefits, recruitment, training and development, payroll, and workers’ compensation.  The HR Manager ensures compliance with state and federal regulations and company policies and procedures. 

This individual contributor role requires a “hands-on”/ “roll-up-your-sleeves” approach to work with, and through others on the ELLWOOD Corporate (Ellwood Group Inc, or EGI) and Business Unit (BU) HR teams to implement people strategies and maintain high employee engagement across the organization. 

Essential Duties/Responsibilities include the following to be performed directly.  Other duties may be assigned.

  • Support EGI’S positive employee relations (PER) strategy to maintain a union-free status while collaborating with and supporting ELLWOOD’s corporate PER policy and philosophy.
  • Implement EGI and ELLWOOD’s multi-year and annual people plan goals to support and drive business objectives by partnering with the CHRO to design and implement scalable solutions that improve efficiency and team member engagement.
  • Support all aspects of the employee lifecycle and administer HR programs, including, but not limited to, compensation, benefits, and leave; recruitment and hiring; disciplinary matters; disputes and investigations; performance management; employee engagement; occupational health and safety; workers compensation; and training and development.
  • Process payroll and compile payroll data to maintain accurate payroll records.
  • Maintain HRIS data, employee/personnel files and documentation, and other reporting required to comply with regulations.
  • Follow sound and thorough investigative procedures to assure due process and consistency in all performance-related workplace incidents and investigation. Monitor and advise managers/supervisors about progressive discipline.
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with federal, state and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; review and modify policies and practices to maintain compliance.
  • Engage in community and professional development initiatives, including but not limited to manufacturing career awareness events, HR associations, grant initiatives, etc.
  • Collaborate with ELLWOOD’S BU HR team on issues and strategic projects.

Minimum Requirements

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, or related degree or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum five (5) years of progressively responsible HR roles.
  • Demonstrated experience in all functional areas of HR is required, processing of payroll is preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in legally compliant workforce management policies, procedures and practices, preferably OFCCP regulatory compliance requirements that also drive a culture of engagement.
  • Manufacturing industry and corporate HR experience preferred.

  • Strong analytical and creative problem-solving skills to deal with a variety of abstractions and concrete variables in situations where only limited or no standardization exists.
  • Excellent organization skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong computer skills, especially in the use of Microsoft Office Suite and HR Information Systems.
  • Ability to work outside of normal work hours to meet business needs and tight deadlines, including ability to travel (approx. 10%) regionally and nationally (less than 5% of the time) and have reliable transportation; a valid drivers’ license is required.
