Land Use | Municipal Attorney

Compensation: 120000.-150000. / Annually

Our client, a highly respected multi-service law firm is seeking a Land Use Municipal Attorney, to join their winning team in Orange County.

Our candidate of choice will bring a strong background in land use, zoning, environmental law, and municipal law, with the ability to manage complex cases and provide strategic legal counsel to clients, including developers, municipalities, and other stakeholders. This role requires excellent analytical, negotiation, and communication skills, along with a deep understanding of New York State and local laws.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Legal Counsel: Deliver comprehensive legal advice on land use, zoning, planning, and municipal matters, including SEQRA compliance, site plan approvals, zoning variances, and other regulatory issues.
• Case Management: Manage a diverse caseload, including litigation and transactional matters, ensuring timely and effective resolution of cases.
• Client Representation: Represent clients in meetings with municipal boards, agencies, and in court, presenting cases, negotiating agreements, and advocating for client interests.
• Document Preparation: Draft, review, and revise complex legal documents, including contracts, ordinances, resolutions, and environmental impact statements.
• Regulatory Compliance: Advise clients on compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, including environmental laws and land use regulations.
• Client Development: Cultivate and maintain strong client relationships, identifying opportunities for business development and providing exceptional client service.
• Team Collaboration: Work closely with partners, associates, and paralegals, providing guidance and mentorship to junior team members.

KEY QUALIFICATIONS:

• Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school and licensed to practice in New York State.
• 3–5 years of experience in municipal and land use law.
• Demonstrated experience attending and presenting at municipal or administrative hearings.
• Strong understanding of SEQR and land use regulations.
• Excellent communication, writing, and interpersonal skills.
• Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple matters in a fast-paced environment.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat; experience with PerfectLaw a plus.
• Ability to work onsite at our Walden, NY office and attend evening meetings as required.
