PURPOSE OF POSITION:
The Maintenance Specialist carries out the programs and policies authorized by the Head Start Performance
Standards, Policy Council, and manages the maintenance of the facilities and transportation vehicles in a
hands-on capacity under the guidance of the Director of Facilities. The workday is typically spent performing
needed maintenance duties at the various Easterseals North Georgia locations including repairs/installation of
equipment and or systems and other physical tasks that are required. Other duties may include overseeing
contractual work and completing needed documentation and paperwork.
SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Director of Facilities, develops and assists in the implementation and monitoring
of facility support services and activities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (include, but are not limited to):
Performs general repairs and services in all maintenance-related disciplines, including but not limited to
light repairs, light electrical, furniture assembly or build, carpentry, and assisting in the diagnosis and repair
in electrical and mechanical installations, plant, and equipment.
Maintain HVAC, filters, fans, etc.
Perform routine landscaping on the grounds.
Replace ceiling tiles, minor sheetrock work, etc.
Paint and fill gaps or crevices (on walls, sidewalks etc.)
Repair and monitor equipment, appliances, and fence repair.
Supervise cleaning work performed by outsourced cleaning companies, general cleaning, window cleaning,
kitchen cleaning, and report any irregularities
Available to work on emergency calls such as snow removal, flood, fire watch.
Develops, posts and maintains evacuation plans as required by the agency.
Conducts weekly, bi-weekly, or as-needed center reviews with the submission of a written report
containing findings to the Director of Facilities or other personnel as identified, and generates a
corrective plan if warranted.
Maintains documentation of reports submitted throughout the program year.
Provide onsite assistance to Center Managers, Family Support Advocates, parents, and teaching
staff as it relates to facility and transportation activities.
Ensures that all vehicles and facilities are maintained safely contributing to a safe environment.
Prepare Daily schedule of work for the following day, and submit a copy to the Director of Facilities
Daily prepare the accountability sheet and submit to the Director of Facilities.
Perform repairs and assembly of equipment, replacement of electrical/mechanical equipment and
devices, minor painting,housekeeping, and other services as required by Centers and Director
of Facilities.
Perform inspection on contractor-completed work and report findings to the Director of Facilities.
Perform required Weekly, Monthly, Quarterly, Semiannual, and annual Preventive maintenance as
directed by the Director of Facilities.
Other duties as assigned or requested by the supervisor.
Physical Requirements:

The ability to use hands and fingers to feel, operate a computer, and perform picking, pinching and whole
hand or arm handling tasks.

The ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, sit on the floor, or crawl as needed.
The ability to reach, extending arms in any direction.
The ability to push or pull objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
The ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
The ability to talk in order to accurately exchange information.
The ability to hear in order to accurately exchange information.
The ability to see clearly in order to maintain safety, use a computer, and for extensive reading and writing.
The ability to work in both indoor conditions and outdoor conditions.
OTHER DUTIES:
Performs other duties as assigned by management.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
A Technical Diploma, Associates Degree, or above in a related field of study and three (3) years of
experience in facility maintenance; or High School Diploma or equivalent and seven (7) years of
experience in facility maintenance.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Must possess knowledge of facility licensure requirements and compliance procedures for a Child
Development Center.
Must possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to perform the assigned functions
responsibly.
Must possess intermediate knowledge of Mechanical systems
Must possess intermediate knowledge of Electrical systems
Must possess intermediate knowledge of Carpentry and roofing
Must possess excellent communication skills.
Must possess knowledge of basic vehicle maintenance processes.
Must possess a valid State of Georgia Driver’s license.
Must be knowledgeable of Microsoft Office
