East Bay Community Action Program (EBCAP) is seeking a full-time/full-year Teacher to join our team and provide a nurturing and safe classroom environment for infants/toddlers in our Early Head Start program at 8 John Chafee Boulevard in Newport, RI. Due to the critical nature of this position to provide services to the children, EBCAP is offering a two-step sign on bonus totaling $2500 for external applicants.

The Early Head Start (EHS) Teacher will assist the Lead Teachers in carrying out developmentally appropriate activities for infants and toddlers. The Teacher's role is to promote the health, nutrition, and education of the children, attend to their safety and welfare, observe and record behaviors of children and identify each child’s strengths and areas to grow. The Teacher will follow the requirements of the Head Start Performance Standards, RI Child Care Center Regulations for Licensing, and RI Department of Education Early Learning Standards. Our Early Head Start program utilizes the Positive Behavioral Intervention and Supports (PBIS) approach and the Creative Curriculum to ensure that all children have the opportunity for high quality, nurturing, and safe learning experience.

The successful candidates must have excellent communication skills to effectively communicate with parents, children, staff, community representatives, and volunteers and have one of the following:

  1. A minimum of a high school diploma or GED certificate with a minimum of 9 credit hours in Early Childhood Education (ECE) coursework and a supervised teaching experience in an ECE setting and must be enrolled in a Child Development Associate (CDA) program to be completed within one year of hire OR;
  2. Child Development Associate (CDA) credential in Early Childhood and a supervised teaching experience in ECE setting OR;
  3. Bachelors or Associates in Early Childhood Education or a related field* and supervised teaching experience in an ECE setting.

*The Rhode Island quality rating and improvement system, Bright Stars defines related degrees for early childhood education teachers as Human Development, Psychology, Sociology, Social Work, and Education. Pediatric Nursing, Home Economics/Family & Consumer Science, Physical Education & Recreation, and Child & Family Studies. Teacher candidates who hold a related degree will be required to provide a detailed college transcript to validate appropriate ECE related classes that include but are not limited to child development, early childhood education and curriculum, early childhood teaching and assessment, psychology, family development, health, and physical development, mathematics, science, children’s literature, approaches to learning, social and emotional development, language development and communication, creativity, professionalism, differentiated teaching, and learning.
