East Bay Community Action Program (EBCAP) is seeking two Lead Teachers to join our team and provide a nurturing and safe classroom environment for children in the Early Head Start program.in Newport, Warren, East Providence, RI. Due to the critical nature of this position to provide services to children, EBCAP is offering a two-step sign-on bonus totaling $2500 for external applicants.
The Early Head Start Teacher will oversee daily classroom functioning and guide the Teacher Associate, Teacher Assistant, per diem Substitutes, and Volunteers, utilizing Head Start Program Performance Standards, Head Start Early Learning Outcomes Framework, Rhode Island Child Day Care Center Regulations for Licensing and RI Early Learning and Development Standards. Our Head Start program utilizes approaches from the Positive Behavioral Intervention and Supports (PBIS), The Incredible Years (IY), Classroom Behavioral Management System, and the Creative Curriculum to ensure that all children have the opportunity for high-quality, nurturing, and safe learning experiences. The Teacher will plan and implement learning experiences that advance the intellectual and physical development of children promote social competence and ensure parental involvement.
The successful individual must have excellent presentation skills, superior leadership, and management skills to effectively communicate with staff, parents, children, and staff.
The Lead Teacher must have one of the following:
- Child Development Associate (CDA) credential in Early Childhood and a supervised teaching experience in an ECE setting OR
- Bachelors or Associates in Early Childhood Education or a related field* and a supervised teaching experience in an ECE setting.
- Other combinations of education and experience will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
*The Rhode Island quality rating and improvement system, Bright Stars defines related degrees for early childhood education teachers as Human Development, Psychology, Sociology, Social Work, and Education. Pediatric Nursing, Home Economics/Family & Consumer Science, Physical Education & Recreation, and Child & Family Studies. RIDE-certified classroom teacher candidates who have a related degree must meet the RI Early Learning Standards Teacher Qualifications as defined in those standards and includes a minimum of 24 credit hours in ECE coursework. Head Start teacher candidates who hold a related degree will be required to provide detailed college transcripts to validate 18 credit hours of coursework in ECE-related courses that include but are not limited to child development, early childhood education and curriculum, early childhood teaching and assessment, psychology, family development, health, and physical development, mathematics, science, children’s literature, approaches to learning, social and emotional development, language development and communication, creativity, professionalism, differentiated teaching, and learning.
