Summary

The Senior Transportation Project Manager is responsible for managing the development and execution of a variety of complex engineering projects. The person in this position must be a licensed engineer in the state of primary practice or should be licensed in a different state with the ability to get a license within 6 months of hire. A key requirement for this position is to have a broad technical background across a variety of disciplines, strong communication and organizational skills, and the ability to quickly assimilate complex technical information. The person in this position will understand many aspects of a multidisciplinary project and learn how to fit each task together for successful pursuit development and project delivery. The person in this position must demonstrate a high level of proficiency related to engineering within the Sub-Practice Area they are in and provide leadership and guidance to less experienced team members as necessary. This position requires a seller-doer mentality and includes business development and client management responsibilities. This role also requires excellent interpersonal skills.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

  • Help develop, learn and apply DOWL standards and best practices.
  • Perform independent review of the transportation design work of other team members with limited assistance from senior level project managers and managers.
  • Coordinate a team of engineering technicians and lower-level transportation engineers during the execution of a work plan for a variety of engineering projects.
  • Provide design oversight to less experienced transportation engineers.
  • Meet with potential clients and teaming partners to help develop new business development opportunities.
  • Support pursuit development efforts and produce technical content for simple to moderately complex project proposals.
  • Write accurate and comprehensive scopes, schedules and budgets with limited assistance from senior level project managers and Practice/Sub-practice Area Leaders.
  • Demonstrate advanced proficiency at managing project teams to meet scope, schedule and budget objectives
  • Perform other related duties as assigned 

Supervisory Responsibilities

May supervise a team of Engineers and Designers (from intern to level III). Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of this unit. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities may include assisting in the interviewing, hiring, and training of employees; planning, assigning, and directing work.

Education and/or Experience

Baccalaureate degree or higher from an ABET accredited engineering or project/construction management program, or a related field, and at least 10 years prior work experience in design, project management, construction engineering or construction management required.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Professional Engineering license in any state, with the ability to get a PE license in the state of primary practice within 6 months of hire.

Ability to obtain DOWL’s Senior PM designation (taking DOWL’s project management training programs), within 1 year of hire date.

Must have a valid driver’s license and a good driving record.
Mathematical Skills

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical analysis, and fundamentals of geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret scientific and technical journals. Ability to respond to inquiries or complaints from clients, co-workers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to effectively present information to clients, co-workers, and the public.
  • Excellent writing skills and ability to communicate effectively with large and diverse groups.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with abstract and concrete variables.
  • Computer skills must include Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and Project.
