The Damien Center empowers communities and persons affected by and at risk for HIV in the state of Indiana by being a leading resource, provider, and advocate for comprehensive HIV/AIDS care, prevention, education, and related services. Damien Center provides client-centered social services focused on care coordination, clinical and pharmacy services, mental health, housing, and nutrition to the Indianapolis community.
Protecting our team members, clients, volunteers, and community partners is an integral part of how we ensure our continued work with the clients we serve. As a condition of employment, Damien Center requires all new hires to be vaccinated against Covid 19 in compliance with the CDC vaccination guidelines including all boosters. All current Damien Center team members are fully vaccinated against Covid 19 and up to date with all boosters effective November 30, 2022.
Also, as a condition of employment, Damien Center requires all team members to be vaccinated against influenza and receive a tuberculosis skin test (or chest x-ray) annually, barring an approved exemption. Damien Center offers onsite vaccinations for all these vaccines on a regular basis including an optional Hepatitis B vaccination.
Position Summary:
This full-time mental health therapist will provide counseling services to adult individuals who are referred through Damien Center programs or engagement with other AIDS Service Organizations. The therapist will primarily conduct in-person therapy sessions at the Damien Center main office but should be adept at using telehealth as needed. The therapist must be licensed in the state of Indiana and be able to work independently. The ideal candidate will have experience and/or knowledge working with the LGBTQ+ community and providing treatment to people with substance use disorders. The therapist will adhere to best practices of the profession including all ethical requirements. This person will adhere to Damien Center's policies and procedures pertaining to clients' rights and confidentiality, including all HIPAA protections. This position comes with flexible scheduling and a self-managed case load.
Duties and Responsibilities:

- Provide high-quality, individualized therapy to clients experiencing mental health and/or substance use disorders.
- Conduct initial evaluation, assessing client's presenting problems and formulating diagnostic impression with treatment recommendations.
- Engage with families and other important client relationships as needed to assist with treatment goals.
- Establish positive, trusting rapport and collaborate with clients to develop, implement, monitor, and modify individualized treatment plans.
- Maintain an active caseload, providing individual therapy within area of expertise and limits of credentials.
- Follow Damien Center procedures regarding the provision of client care and documentation.
- Maintain client records in accordance with applicable standards and regulations, grant requirements, etc.
- Demonstrate a high level of ethical conduct regarding confidentiality, dual-relationships, and professional stature.
- Work collaboratively with various staff members at Damien Center, applicable outside agencies, clinic staff, and Damien Center administrative personnel via team meetings, one-on-one consultations, and staff meetings.
- Demonstrate consistent documentation of client interactions and maintain skilled use of electronic medical records.
- Maintain program standards of care set forth by the Department of Mental Health and Addictions (DMHA Indiana).
- Participate in continuing education requirements every year (Minimum of 20 CEUs per year), continue to enhance and develop knowledge in areas of expertise and/or interest, as well as build on use of modalities to meet various needs of clients.
- Participate in ongoing professional staff development programs, workshops, and presentations.
- Monitor caseload to ensure compliance with insurance procedures and policies, including timely treatment plan reviews, completion of progress notes, and billing within 24 to 48 hours of session.
- Performs special assignments and other work, on an as-needed basis.
Minimum Qualifications/Requirements:
- Master's Degree and Active Indiana Licensure in Mental Health field required (LSW, LMHCA, LMFTA).
- Clinical licensure preferred (LCSW, LMHC, LMFT). LCAC or LAC a plus.
- 2 years of experience working in mental health treatment required.
- Advanced knowledge and skills in community-based mental health are required.
- Knowledge of LGBTQ+ culture and societal/family challenges is required.
- Experience and/or knowledge of substance use treatment is preferred.
- Bi-lingual preferred.
Salary is commensurate with education and experience.

Possess superior organizational and administrative skills. Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities. Excellent computer skills in a Microsoft Windows environment. Ability to work independently and achieve high standards of productivity, achieving deadlines and with superior product results. Strong calendaring, organizational, and document management skills required. Proactive approach to solving problems and communicating to leadership. Knowledge of office management systems, procedures, and office equipment required. Excellent time management skills and ability to prioritize work.
