Covia is looking for a dynamic Senior Development Engineer who will have a positive impact on the Technology Platform Team at its Fort Smith, AR location. As a Senior Development Engineer specializing in thermal processes, you will play a key role in our scaleup process and pilot plant operations. The successful candidate will lead the design, development, scale-up and optimization of thermal treatment platform. This position requires a deep understanding of heat transfer, thermal modeling, and engineering principles.
The successful incumbent will have the following Key Accountabilities:
- Lead the design, development, scale up and optimization of the thermal treatment platform to provide value-added specialty mineral solutions to the customers
- Collaborate with R&D and plant process engineers and project engineers to ensure seamless integration from lab bench to pilot, as well as from pilot to larger-scale production processes.
- Implement advanced modeling techniques to predict and control thermal behavior within pilot plant systems. Build process models to guide scaleup from pilot plant to production.
- Conduct in-depth analysis of process data, troubleshoot issues, and implement solutions to enhance efficiency and performance in the pilot plant.
- Provide technical training to plant and other staff personnel on engineering subjects. Mentor and coach younger engineers and technicians.
- Stay abreast of industry trends, emerging technologies, and industrial best practices related to thermal processes. Direct and conduct testing on new to Covia process equipment and methods to evaluate their fit.
- Monitor technical developments in metallurgical/minerals processing fields for new project ideas and applications of new process technology.
- Provide strong support to the pilot plant manager in day-to-day pilot plant operation in milling, surface treatment and granulation.
The successful incumbent will have the following Minimum Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related field.
- Proven experience (5+ years) in the design, development, and optimization of thermal processes, preferably in a pilot plant or industrial setting.
- In-depth knowledge of heat transfer, thermal modeling, and engineering principles.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a track record of implementing innovative solutions.
- Excellent project management and leadership skills.
- Effective communication and collaboration abilities.
