Community Options, Inc. is a national non-profit agency providing services to individuals with disabilities in 12 states. 

We are now hiring a Staff Accountant to assist the Controller, Assistant Controller, and Accounting Supervisors with all general ledger functions and contract compliance for the organization. The Staff Accountant will be based out of our Newtown, PA location with occasional travel to our headquarters in Princeton, NJ.

Responsibilities:

  • Approve Accounts Payable invoices for assigned regions
  • Process and upload monthly purchase journals
  • Complete monthly bank reconciliation as assigned
  • Prepare and enter general journal entries monthly/quarterly as necessary
  • Analyze and monitor balance sheets and income statement accounts
  • Review semi-monthly payroll for validation of allocations and budget
  • Prepare billing and assist with billing inquiries
  • Prepare and analyze monthly variance reports for internal management reporting
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual cost reports as required by funding sources
  • Prepare, enter, and maintain budgets in accounting software
  • Prepare documentation and payment vouchers for various monthly expenses
  • Prepare monthly expense allocations and enter in general ledger
  • Order and monitor PEX and grocery cards for assigned regions
  • Prepare, submit, and pay sales taxes
  • Prepare and provide account reconciliations for compliance and annual audits
  • Order and monitor divvy card transaction activity for assigned regions
  • Prepare FTE reports for each payroll cycle
  • Monitor and prepare monthly vacancy reports for states
  • Review and approve T & E reports via Web expenses, and web browser software
  • Maintain contractual and general ledger files in an organized fashion
  • Prepare applications for tax exemption status as needed
  • Pre required documents for local, state, and federal government agencies
  • Employees must cooperate with the licensee and department staff in any inspection, inquiry or investigation
  • Additional tasks and responsibilities may be assigned

 Minimum Requirements:

  • AAS in Accounting and two to three years related experience; or
  • BS in Accounting or related field from accredited education institution (or equivalent)
  • Two to five years of related general accounting experience.
  • State trainings as required
  • Valid driver's license with satisfactory driving record
  • Commitment to and knowledge of community-based support for persons with disabilities
  • Knowledge of general accounting through general ledger
  • Demonstrated capability with budget development and fiscal reporting.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Suite.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to prioritize with excellent time management skills
  • Ability to work with individuals from all levels of the organization
  • Independent  judgement is required to plan, prioritize, and organize diversified workload
  • Ability to work independently
  • Must have a high level of interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential situations
  • Position requires demonstrated poise, tact, and diplomacy skills

Working Conditions:

  • Occasional overtime required
  • Work a flexible schedule as determined by the supervisor
  • Occasional lifting of up to 15 lbs.
