Job Description :
The Data Architect must also be able to identify problems at the data modeling/design level and recommend solution to problems. The Data Architect interacts with team members, Database Administrators and other Information Services team members to ensure accurate identification, definition and interpretation of data requirements, data models and database designs. The Data Architect will maintained enforce data architecture/administration standards, as well as standardization of column name abbreviations, domains and attributes. The preferred candidate will have multiple years of data modeling / database design experience
Responsible for the analysis, creation, and maintenance of logical and physical data designs for application and analytical needs. Promotes appropriate and consistent usage of data throughout the enterprise. Supports and may lead data design initiatives relating to multiple features or applications involving integrated design and architecture.
• Demonstrates base knowledge of data concepts within
multiple domains or business processes. Collaborates with project team in gathering and
analyzing data requirements and information flow.
• Develops logical and physical data designs that fully
support the current business needs and are flexible
enough for future requirements. Applies appropriate level of abstraction in designs.
• Confirms that data designs support the integration of data and information flow across systems and platforms.
• Performs maintenance of current data diagrams and metadata to enable further enhancements.
• Analyzes and makes recommendations on the impact of data designs as they relate to common retail conceptual models.
• Identifies inefficiencies in design.
• May interact with Technology Leadership (EA,
Architects) to drive the technology and strategy for data-rest and data-in-motion.
• Updates and enforces data architecture policies,standards and procedures.
• Provides data SME knowledge, to both IT and business users, to promote a common understanding and the appropriate usage of data assets.
• May participate in relevant tool evaluation and
implementation. Recommends solutions based on established best practices
• Sees patterns and uses conceptual thinking to solve problems
• Work is more variable at this level; as such must consider multiple options to solve problems
Makes tactical decisions that are driven by the priorities of the project
• Issues not defined by best practices are escalated to senior team members or Management
Communicates with Management on status issues and decisions

• 5+ years of logical and physical 3NF data modeling in an operational system development environment.
• 5+ years of logical and physical modeling utilizing a major data modeling tool (ex. ER/Studio, ERwin, PowerDesigner)
• Strong knowledge of DBMS concepts (views, foreign keys, primary keys, indexes, referential integrity, column constraints), SQL, and DDL generation and validation.
• Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
• Enterprise-wide viewpoint and forward thinking.
• Ability to research project needs independently and correlate them to other similar concepts within the enterprise.
• Strong analytical abilities. Based on both written and verbal system development requirements, knows what questions to ask and when to ask them.
