SUMMARY
The Data Center Systems Engineerprovides operational support and management ofData Center/Computer Room facilities and other areas that support delivery of technology within the PTC technical infrastructure. This role will be responsible management, uptime, overall health and “well-being” of data center environmental systems, (e.g. HVAC, UPS, Fire Suppression, Power)
Success in this role requires strong organization, planning, and communication skills. You must also be intolerant of manual activities that will impede reliability, scaling, and efficiency. You must be willing and able to find ways to automate critical and repetitive tasks to ensure consistent execution at scale, while limiting mistakes.
Responsibilities:
- Responsible for delivering a highly reliable Data Center environment to support the PTC technical infrastructure, as well as providing recommendations for effective and efficient use.
- Knowledgeable of industry best practices in the implementation of complex Data Center environments.
- Coordinate maintenance efforts with various vendors for equipment and data center facilities
- Server/equipment installations and decommissions
- Responsible for all network, storage, and power labeling
- Monitor health and status of data center environmental systems.
- Maintain inventory of patch cables and power cords
- Maintain documentation for power and network connections.
- Manage testing and maintenance for all data center environmental systems
- Data Center metric reporting.
- Identify and recommend areas for improving data center efficiency and expenditure.
- Assist with Implementation and management of data center standard operation procedures.
- Assist server and network teams with basic hardware troubleshooting
General Qualifications:
- Hands-on operational experience in a high-volume and critical production service environment
- 5+ years of progressively expanding experience supporting Data Centers and critical environmental systems, (e.g. HVAC, UPS)
Technical Qualifications:
- Knowledge of the best practices on the physical implementation of critical infrastructure components, such as servers, network switches and storage environments
- Knowledge of Network systems and Server Operating systems
- Word processing, spreadsheets, Internet, e-mail, and Visio software knowledge is recommended
Communication Qualifications:
- Strong ability to communicate precisely in both written and verbal forums
- Works well with peers and team members to build a stronger team both inside and outside the assigned area of responsibility
Education:
- BA/BS in Computer Science preferred, or equivalent experience (5 years) in this service area
