Performs difficult technical and responsible administrative work in supervising the Public Safety Communications operators and carrying out a comprehensive safety program for the city. Performs related work as required. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Emergency Services Director. Manages the City’s safety program to include safety awareness; develops safety procedures, and implementation strategies. Successful applicant chairs City’s Executive Safety Committee; develops meeting agenda. Researches safety issues, develops training materials, gathers supplemental information; conducts training sessions. Successful applicant will serve as liaison for North Carolina OSHA visits. Successful applicant manages accident investigation process; develops the accident investigation procedure; reviews all accident reports written by the supervisors; recommends corrective action when appropriate. Successful applicant assists in planning, organizing, directing and evaluating the operation of Communication Center. Successful applicant must have thorough knowledge of the methods of operating the emergency communications system, thorough knowledge of Federal and State regulations governing transmission by radio, thorough knowledge of the geography of the City; general knowledge of Police, Fire and EMS procedures. Successful applicant must have thorough knowledge of Worker’s Compensation and Public Liability Laws and work place safety programs; thorough knowledge of OSHA regulations. Must have the ability to lift, carry, push or pull objects weighing 50–75 pounds; ability to climb, stoop, kneel and bend over. Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and an Associate degree preferred with considerable experience in safety program management, extensive experience as a Telecommunicator and some supervisory experience.
