GENERAL PURPOSE:
Provides quality instruction of arts/culture/history for cultural classes, camps, tours, programs and activities for the benefit of all ages of participants. The days of work and hours will vary with each program. This position will report to the Curator of Education.
The salary range for this position is $16.68- $22.52 depending on qualifications and experience.
Position(s) will remain open until filled.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Instruct participants in class, camp or program; develop and implement age appropriate lesson plans; be prepared to lead tours of art/history or other exhibits, as the exhibit may pertain to the lesson or program; participate in required training; inspect classroom/program environment and equipment to ensure safety, handle emergencies according to established procedures; complete administrative tasks such as skill assessment of participants, attendance sheets, class or program evaluations, timesheets; prepare and submit class descriptions for brochures and other promotional materials; assess supplies and provide supply lists; and provide make-up sessions as required.
Youth Class Instructor- This Instructor would focus on youth art classes for ages toddler through teen, and also kid/adult classes. Classes are typically held in the evenings or on Saturdays during the school year, during the day on school breaks, and during the summer as 3-day camps. Prior K-12 art classroom experience a plus.
Shifts: Hours for instructors depend on classes scheduled and if they meet minimum enrollment. Most Museum instructors work an average of about 3-5 hours per week, but some weeks may have more hours and some may have less.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge, skills and abilities:
Knowledge of specific art media or cultural topic required. Must have previous experience leading in a classroom or presentation setting with children and/or adults. Strong oral and written communication skills required. Ability to work with a diverse group of people effectively and diplomatically. Strong customer service skills required. The ability to handle difficult situations involving participants with patience, good judgment, discipline and diplomacy is required. Must demonstrate competent organizational and planning skills. Ability to instruct or present in an outdoor setting if necessary.
Education and/or experience:
Minimum of three (3) years previous experience leading/teaching adult and/or children’s art and culture activities. Course work in art, culture, anthropology, education or related field preferred. Previous participation in and sound knowledge of the specific lesson activity required.
Licensure and/or certifications:
First Aid and C.P.R. certification preferred.

Working conditions and physical requirements:
Must be able to physically lead and demonstrate the skill and/or activity. Will be required to work varied hours, including evenings and weekends. May require pushing, pulling, stooping, kneeling, crouching, climbing, positioning and moving equipment necessary for the activity. The incumbent in this position must possess the strength and stamina to perform strenuous physical activity.
