FUNCTION
The Backside Maintenance Dept. at Churchill Downs Racetrack seeks to fill two (2) maintenance person to perform a variety of maintenance functions and related duties as assigned.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Drive tractors pulling; harrows, floats, rollers, and conditioners on the track
- Experience spraying and applying fungicides and fertilizers.
- Must be able to operate equipment such as mowers, trimmers, chemical sprayers, various hand tools and related equipment.
- Assist with planting, cleaning, other related grounds maintenance.
- Participate in cross training to enhance knowledge and skills in various maintenance operations.
- Will be required to participate in safety training and pass associated quizzes.
- Other duties, as assigned.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
- Five (5) years of demonstrated experience in maintenance trades including but not limited to carpentry, painting, masonry, and other basic maintenance skills.
- Applicators license preferred
- Two (2) years minimum of demonstrated race track experience. Ability to drive tractors pulling; harrows, floats, rollers, and conditioners on the track requited.
- Turf experience with knowledge of irrigation systems preferred.
- Ability to operate maintenance equipment including but not limited to water trucks, skid steer loaders, rubber tire loaders and utility tractors.
- Familiarity around thoroughbred racehorses preferred.
- Candidate will be tested to demonstrate their skills, expertise, and ability to perform requested duties as required by the manager.
- High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) is required. Additional education or training such as trade vocational school in maintenance subjects and certificates and other training records are a plus.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license.
- Must submit successfully to a DMV and background check.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Must be able to regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
- Must be able to regularly stand, walk, use hands to manipulate tools and equipment, reach with hands and arms, speak and hear.
- Must have excellent close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to focus.
- Working hours will vary (all times and shifts). Weekend and Holiday work is mandatory.
