Our early childhood program serves as the backbone for many at-risk Chicago communities, including West Humboldt Park, Pilsen, Bronzeville, and New City/Back of the Yards. High rates of poverty and limited educational and economic resources impact these neighborhoods. 

POSITION SUMMARY:
Assists in the general operation of the food service program in preparation of breakfast, lunch and snack meal serve to early learning center classrooms.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Receives daily food service and weekly milk service deliveries from designated providers.
  • Monitors the temperature, quantity, and quality of food items received.
  • Ensure temperature logs are accurately completed and maintained and that all food and beverage items are properly labeled.
  • Reports any challenges with food service delivery to the Site Director and/or catering company directly.
  • Preps and distributes breakfast, lunch, and snack meals to classrooms.
  • Ensure the kitchen area, utensils, and equipment is clean, sanitized, and equipped for the preservation, storage, preparation and serving of food.
  • Maintains written inventory of food, kitchen related equipment and supplies.
  • Maintains records as required by the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP).
  • Follows appropriate breakfast, lunch and snack cycle menus provided by catering company.
  • Prepares orders for food and food-related supplies and places orders as required.
  • Assists teaching staff with food/nutrition activities by monitoring oven baking and providing sanitary equipment for food experiences.
  • Ensure proper observance of choking hazards and meal substitutions due to documented allergies, medical conditions, or religious observances.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED). Licensed Food Service Manager Certification.

TECHNICAL SKILLS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to read and write English proficiently. Candidates must regularly operate a word-processing system and therefore must be able to read, produce and transmit data on such a system. 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Candidates must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds and are frequently required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
