Job Summary
In the Associate Lead Animal Care Technician role, you will use existing SOPs and quality assurance standards to perform the following tasks:
- Point of Contact for all schedule changes for CRL staff
- Understands cage counts, census, and metrics for allocating work to technicians
- Assist with compliance rounds, including weekly walk-throughs, assigning tasks to be addressed, follow-up on completion, and trending for management team
- Assist with leading, organizing, implementing husbandry, cage wash, and animal receiving tasks; Assist in the scheduling of Microbial testing and Water Quality testing
- Schedule and oversee breeding protocols and program activities; production levels, determine culls, assigning animals to study, updating IACUC protocols
- Perform mating, weans, various neonate identifications and any activity assigned to breeding projects
- Provide health monitoring and disease model scoring
- Order facility supplies including feed / bedding and consumables
- Assist with restraint, handling and manipulation of various animal species as assigned
- Assist in providing leadership and guidance to the husbandry staff on operations and facility issues. Specific responsibilities include investigating operational issues, including gathering information and details, compiling the information, and submitting/presenting it along with recommendation(s) for resolution of the situation/issue to the Operations manager. Provide training to new hires in the duties and responsibilities of animal care and facility operations.
Job Qualifications
A candidate that possesses a Bachelor's degree (B.A./B.S.) or equivalent in Animal Science or related discipline preferred; has a minimum three years’ related experience working in a laboratory animal facility with rodents; familiarity with the workings and supplies used in a lab animal facility. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education and experience listed above. AALAS certification at the Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician (ALAT) level required.
The pay range for this position is $29 to $31.78 USD per hour. Please note that salaries vary within the range based on factors including experience, skills, education, certifications, and location.
