Catholic Charities of Baltimore is currently seeking a Elder Assistant- Evening who will assist residents who are physically and/or socially impaired and need 24 hour oversight, with activities of daily living and medication assistance/administration, fostering at all times residents’ independence and freedom of choice.

Caritas House is a community for seniors that provides additional services that help our residents remain independent and safe. Our Elder Assistants help our residents with their activities of daily living including dressing, personal hygiene, housekeeping, and laundry services. The Care Assistant assists residents who are physically and/or socially impaired and need 24-hour oversight, with activities of daily living, always fostering residents’ independence and freedom of choice.

The schedule is 3:00 -11:30pm. 

JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides assistance with activities of daily living, including: dressing/undressing, bathing, toileting, personal hygiene,mobility devices, and care of activities of daily living (ADL) devices such as eyeglasses, contact lenses and hearing aids.
  • Provides assistance with instrumental activities of daily living including but not limited to: telephone, housekeepingtasks such as vacuuming, emptying trash, cleaning bathroom, bed making, and bed changes, laundry, escort 
  • Assists residents with self-administration and/or administers medications, including monitoring of medication supplies and documentation
  • Documents clearly and accurately on the Medication Administration Record (MAR) after a medication is taken/given,refused, held, discontinued, changed, disposed of, returned, following the residence policy
  • Performs count of controlled substances with appropriate CMTs at beginning and end of shift
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the general use of medications being given, therapeutic action, usual dosage, precautionscontraindications, and side effects
  • Performs other duties as assigned

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School diploma/ G.E.D., with a Nursing Assistant Certification by the Maryland Board of Nursing.
  • Requires Certification as Medication Technician.
  • Six months – one year of experience is preferred.
  • Must obtain First Aid certification and all other certifications required by licensing including food handling within the first 6 months of employment.
  • Must have the ability to read and write/print legibly, follow oral and written directions, and maintain confidentiality required. 

REQUIRMENTS & ABILITIES:

Position requires the ability to: move freely throughout the building, including climbing stairs; reach bend, squat, lift/push 50 lbs.,
transfer up to 150 lbs. regularly and stand 85% of the time. Must possess visual and hearing acuity and clear speech sufficient to
perform the essential functions of the job. Employees in this position may be exposed to body fluids, infection, and odors, behavior of residents, and chemicals or cleaning solutions.
