Position Summary

The Senior Cost Accountant is responsible for all aspects of cost accounting and inventory oversight. The Senior Cost Accountant is to proactively participate in the Finance Department’s financial close process, analysis and reporting.

This position will report directly to the Finance Director.

The Role

  • Facilitate Master Data paperwork and roll standard costs as necessary. Ensure all active Raw Materials, Intermediate items, and Finished Goods have accurate standard costs. 

  • Perform cost estimates for new products or potential changes to existing products, as required.

  • Analyze for discrepancies in manufactured product costs, by reviewing the manufacturing variances and identifying any discrepancies in routings or bills of materials.

  • Complete day-to-day control of the work order system, including analyzing and closing commercial and R&D work orders in a timely manner. Must be familiar with work order costing concepts.

  • Keep work orders current and work closely with production to correct any discrepancies.

  • Ensure integrity of standard costs and item attributes that impact costing or standard accounting flows.

  • Analyze cost of sales and manufacturing variances.

  • Prepare monthly Yield, PPV, Reject and KPI Reporting.

  • Assist in annual budget process with sales plan and standard cost rate development and reports.

  • Other duties assigned.

The Candidate

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field of study
  • 5+ years of relevant accounting experience
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office application: Excel and Word
  • Ability to effectively meet scheduled and ad-hoc project deadlines
  • Demonstrated quick study and self-starter competencies
  • A team player committed to high standards of professionalism
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure to meet deadlines. Individual may be required to sit, stand, walk regularly and occasionally lift 0-15 pounds

  • Be accessible to manufacturing floor and office staff and to use required office equipment

  • Specific vision requirements include reading of written documents and use of computer monitor screen frequently.
