Position Overview:  The position of a Bridges/Structures Carpenter is a skilled position that builds forms for concrete, pours concrete and installs reinforced steel and anchor bolts for the erection of support structures in construction.  This position also involves operating cement mixers, power tools and other types of equipment as well as other assigned duties

Duties and Responsibilities:
 
•Builds and assembles wood forms and form systems using saws, hammers, drills, and other power tools as required
•Digs ditches and trenches
•Compacts and levels dirt to grade specifications.
•Shovels cement and other materials into portable cement mixers. 
•Mixes, pours and spreads concrete
•Uses hand tools such as hammer, shovels, chainsaws, drills, hydraulic tools, etc. for necessary tasks.
•Provides assistance to other workers
•Erects and disassembles scaffolding, shoring, barricades, etc.
•Loads and unloads equipment

Education and/or Experience:

•Two years’ minimum Carpenter experience
•High School education or equivalent preferred
•Ability to read and understand construction plans, preferred
•Bridge construction preferred

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

•Attention to Detail
•Ability to understand and follow oral instructions and effectively communicate with supervisors, co-workers and the public
•Able to comply with all safety policies and procedures and OSHA regulations
•Able to comply with all company policies and procedures
•Ability to travel and work overtime (including nights and weekends) when required
•Must have a strong work ethic
•Valid driver’s license, preferred
•Must be able to pass a pre-employment and random drug screen.

Physical Demands:  The physical demands below are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
•Able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
•Able to stand, kneel, squat, bend, push, pull, climb, and stretch regularly while performing the essential functions of the job
•Able to push and pull with hands and arms and move repetitively
•Able to be alert and cognitive of multiple concurrent activities of the construction site, including awareness of other employees, subcontractors, machinery, equipment, and moving traffic when applicable
•Able to work around loud noises
•Coordination between hand, eyes, feet to guide tools, equipment and objects is required
•Ability to walk and work on uneven terrain
Environmental Working Conditions
•All work is performed outside in heat, cold, and inclement weather.
•Exposure to all elements of nature
•Exposure to all types of terrain
•Exposure to loud noise
•Exposure to fumes, odors, gasses, dusts, etc.
•Work in close proximity to heavy traffic
