Position Overview: The position of Bridges and Structures Superintendent has the direct responsibility for personnel, equipment, scheduling, safety, quality of workmanship, and completion of assigned projects on time.
Duties and Responsibilities (but not limited to):
•Coordinating equipment, crews, and other job-related activities, ensuring work, personnel, and equipment are accurately planned and executed to maximize efficiency - including planning and coordinating foremen responsibilities, scheduling materials, subcontractors, and crew.
•Inspecting all work-in-progress to ensure work conforms to specifications and plans · Ensure that ALL resources assigned are maintained, protected, secured and used at optimum efficiency.
•Review, maintain, and monitor crews’ productivity and daily goals. Directly overseeing time sheets for labor, as well as daily reports complete with quantities worked. · Conduct daily huddles AND weekly Toolbox Talk with crews.
•Develop Daily Hazard Analyses as well as job Activity Hazard Analyses prior to new work activities and review with crews.
•Identify extra work or change of conditions and report to Division Manager/Project Manager.
•Enforce quality control and Company safety policies on all aspects of construction.
•Promoting and adhering to on-the-job training of personnel and Company safety standards. Take an active role in emphasizing safety, quality and production, leading by example.
•Assist with survey and field layout. Assist estimators during the pursuit of new work.
•Develop and maintain client, subcontractor, and team member relationships
Education and/or Experience:
•High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) preferred.
•Five (5) to Eight (8) years of experience in crew management of highway bridge construction operations required.
•Combinations of work experience and education may be considered.
Certifications, Licenses, Registrations
•OSHA 10 hour preferred
•CCO certification preferred
•Rigging certification preferred
•First Aid/CPR certification preferred
•Current Driver’s License, required
•NCDOT Erosion and Sedimentation Control certification required
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
•Working knowledge of bridge construction means and methods including experience with Pile Driving, Concrete Forming, Steel or Concrete Beam Erection, Temporary and Permanent Shoring, Cofferdams, Drilled-shaft Foundations, Bridge Deck Forming, Culvert Construction and Concrete Placement.
•Understand project budgets and productions to manage personnel and equipment efficiently.
•Ability to read and interpret CPM Schedules to plan work, equipment, and manpower needs for assigned projects.
•Have a working knowledge of all required plans and specifications.
•Knowledge of survey controls, grade checking, and bridge geometry.
•Excellent organizational and planning, written and verbal communication, and supervisory skills are required.
•Able to read and comprehend simple instruction, short correspondence, and memos.
•Able to read plans and proposals

•Able to effectively communicate information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and employees.
•Ability to deal with problems/issues involving several variable situations.
•Experienced working around cranes, lifts, and heavy construction equipment.

Physical Demands:
•Extensive physical activity performing strenuous daily activities of a primarily productive/technical nature. Includes standing and sitting for extended periods of time, stooping, bending and crouching.
•Able to walk on uneven surfaces, including natural ground in varying weather conditions.
•Capable of lifting up to 70 pounds.
•Visual accuracy under varying degrees of light, darkness, and weather conditions in order to provide safe directions for operators of heavy equipment and other employees.
•Able to climb on and off heavy mobile equipment, and in and out of excavations and up to 20 feet in height
•Able to work overtime and weekends, if necessary
•Able to travel when required.

Environmental Working Conditions
•Outdoor exposure to changing weather conditions (i.e., rain, sun, snow, wind, etc.)
•Noise level in the work environment is loud.

•Work is performed near heavy equipment and moving machinery.
