General Responsibility

The Grading CDL Driver is responsible for driving and operating a dump truck, water truck, flat bed, or other vehicle as assigned. This position may perform other duties on the crew as needed such as shoveling, installing erosion control, checking grade, carrying materials, drive posts, operating small tools such as tamps and jumping jacks, rollers, broom tractors, and any other as directed by the foreman. This position receives close supervision related to specific work activities, assignments, methods, etc.; usually receives frequent observation/inspection over job activities; instructions are detailed and assignments are typically short-term. Normal work hours are day or night shift eight (8) to fourteen (14) hours Monday through Friday.  Weekend work may be required depending on the contract. Minimal overnight travel (up to 10%) as required.  This job description provides an overview of responsibilities and task to be performed.  It is not intended to be an all-inclusive job description as needs tend to change over time.

Required Skills

  •  Ability to read a limited number of two and three-syllable English words and to recognize similarities and differences between words and between series of numbers. Ability to print and speak simple sentences.
  • Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one or two-step instructions. Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.

Required Experiences

  • EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
    High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) preferred, but not required. Two (2) years of prior driving experience required.  Other combinations of education and experience may be considered.                                                                                                                  
  • CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
    Current Class B CDL is required.  Tanker, Haz/Mat and Class A license preferred.
