Primary Function: Responsible for rendering professional nursing services, either directly or indirectly, for a defined group of patients according to the hospital’s philosophy of patient care.

Job Qualifications and Specifications: ICU Registered Nurses are expected to have:

  • I.V. certification.

  • The ability to recognize all significant cardiac arrhythmia.

  • A clear understanding of symptoms and clinical findings for myocardial infarction and its complications.

  • An understanding of the needs of the critically-ill medical and surgical patient.

  • A thorough knowledge of the psychological as well as the medical needs of the patient and the need to maintain an environment free from noise and anxiety.

  • Competence in the operation of all resuscitation equipment.

  • BLS

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support completion. New graduates will complete ACLS within one year of hire.

  • Knowledge of hemodynamic monitoring and basic for Intra-Aortic Balloon Pumping.

  • Attendance and completion of yearly competency fair.

  • RI state RN licensure
