Job Summary: Responsible for analyzing, evaluating and interpreting various specimens for the detection, diagnosis and treatment of a variety of medical conditions.

Responsibilities

-Perform qualitative and quantitative analysis of patient specimens according to established procedures. Perform specimen collection and other specimen handling duties as needed.

-Operate complex biomedical electronic instrumentation including calibration, maintenance, quality assurance and troubleshooting.

-Perform and analyze quality control procedures including daily testing, recording, problem resolution and compiling reports to assure accuracy of all results.

-Review and verify the accuracy of tests results before entering in information system.

-Maintain a proper inventory of supplies needed in order to provide continuous service, minimizing downtime.

-Evaluate test results for accuracy, reportability and clinical significance and report accordingly.

-Maintain current knowledge of specialty by attending seminars, in-services and reading journals.

-Evaluate new methodologies and instrumentation under the guidance of the Section Chief and report findings and recommendations.

-Assume supervisory responsibilities in absence of Department Head. Orient and train new employees/students.

-Performs all other related duties as assigned.

Specifications:

MLT: An Associate’s degree in Medical lab Technology and a minimum of six months job-related experience or equivalent is required. RI License and ASCP/AMT is also required.

MT: A Bachelor’s degree in Medical technology or Specific Science and a minimum of six months job-related experience or equivalent is required. RI License and ASCP or NCA is also required.
