Primary Functions: The advanced nurse clinician has advanced knowledge in a specialized area of nursing practice, functions within the broad roles (clinical practice, consultation, education, research, collaboration and leadership) to insure the delivery of evidenced-based, quality patient care. The goal of the advanced nurse clinician is to improve quality of care by defining, refining and teaching to others the art and science of nursing practice. Consistent with Benner’s framework; Novice to Expert, the advanced nurse clinician demonstrates a superior grasp of clinical situations based on experience and reasoning.

Job Qualifications and Specifications

A Master’s of Science in Nursing from an accredited school of nursing and appropriate current certification is required.

Graduate level physical assessment, also required.

Current R I. RN License.

Three years of recent, current clinical expertise and experience in specialty.

ACLS or appropriate specialty rescusitation provider status preferred.

Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work well with others are essential.

Experience leading work groups or teams, highly desirable.
