Job Description
Eurofins Environment Testing Northwest is searching for a Senior Environmental Chromatography Chemist to add to our Semi Volatiles and/or Volatiles department in the Tacoma, WA area. We seek an organic instrument analyst skilled with chromatography systems with the ability to operate and maintain these instruments and keep them productive. In this role you will also be responsible for analyzing and reviewing analytical data to meet our customers’ technical and data delivery requirements. In this position you will be a contributing member of our chromatography team interacting and exchanging information within the group to deliver quality products and services to our customers. Ability to prioritize tasks and implement best practices to optimize group overall efficiency are essential success criteria in this role.
The Senior Chromatography Chemist prepares and analyzes environmental samples using both standard and complex testing protocols in accordance with EPA methodologies and in compliance with Eurofins Environment Testing Northwest Quality Assurance programs and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s). Additional responsibilities include validation and review of analytical data and upload data into Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) to generate data packages for delivery to clients. Must be knowledgeable in a broad range of laboratory testing equipment coupled with an analytical skill set and technical judgement to consistently deliver high quality data.
Senior Analyst responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Performs laboratory procedures requiring knowledge of EPA chromatography methods and good laboratory practices (GLP) which include:
- Batching and prepping samples for analysis taking into account special and varied client and QA requirements
- Making reagents for sample analysis
- Aliquots extracted samples to maximize laboratory productivity
- Preparing appropriate standards to ensure compliant data
- Determining appropriate routine and complex analysis methods for a wide variety of organic samples
- Operation, calibration, and maintenance of laboratory instruments
- Performs Level I and Level II review of data produced to ensure accuracy.
- Maintains logbooks, instrument maintenance logs and other laboratory records in accordance with GLP and the laboratory’s accreditation standards.
- Responsible for performing job functions within Eurofins Environment Testing Environmental Health and Safety Standards and Quality Assurance standards.
- Writes, reviews, and maintains laboratory SOPs used in the chromatography department
- Develops new methods and drives innovation and new technology advancements in the chromatography department
- Works with the project management group to address customer needs and match them to laboratory capabilities
- Has technical skills to accurately narrate data with QA issues that can still be used for its intended purpose but skillful enough to reject and reprocess data and samples as needed.
- Assists in training new analysts on laboratory procedures.
- Flexibility to work overtime and weekends as needed based upon variable workloads and customer deadlines.
- Assists in other areas of laboratory when needed.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate would possess:
- 5 to 10 years of experience with EPA Methods 8260, 8270, 8081, 8082, 608, 8011, 8015 and similar GC and GCMS procedures
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in routine and complex laboratory procedures using GCMS, GC-ECD, or GC-FID, preferably in a production environment
- 1 to 2 years of extraction laboratory experience with the aforementioned EPA methods.
- BS or BA in chemistry or related field; 3 years laboratory experience may substitute for degree.
- Experience and knowledgeable with National Environmental Laboratory Accreditation Program (NELAP) and Department of Defense (DOD) requirements to provide compliant data with these standards.
- Ability to problem solve, troubleshoot, and interpret analytical data
- Time management and organization skills to prioritize backlog, meet holding times, and customer deadlines
- Ability to implement best practices to improve work flow.
- Strong reading, writing, and speaking skills and ability to interact with peers both orally and in writing
- Work independently following written or verbal instructions
Additional Information
Compensation range: $27.00 - $35.00 USD per hour depending on qualifications and experience.
Position is full-time, Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m., with overtime as needed.
