Responsibilities
- Perform personal care needs
- Plan and prepare nutritious meals and assist in feeding the patient when necessary
- Take and record temperatures, pulse, respiration, and blood pressure when ordered with appropriate completed/demonstrated skills competency when on patients plan of care
- Assist in ambulation and exercise, as instructed
- Assist patient in self-administration of medication
- Meet safety needs of patient and use equipment safely and properly
- Report on patient’s condition and significant changes to the assigned nurse
- Keep the patient’s living area clean and orderly
- Provide respite for patient’s family/caregiver when on-site, as appropriate
- Ensure compliance with all state and federal legal and regulatory requirements
- Additional responsibilities as assigned
Qualifications
- Meets the training requirements of the State
- Completed a minimum of seventy five hours of classroom and supervised practical training Sixteen hours of classroom must be completed prior to a mandatory sixteen hours of practical training
- Minimum of six months experience including providing personal care
- At least eighteen years of age
- Ability to read and follow written instructions and document care given
- Understands hospice philosophy, comfortable providing specialized care to the terminally ill
- Satisfactory references from previous employers
- Ability to work with little direct supervision
- Secure with issues of death/dying
- Provides a calm manner when in a patient’s home
- Possess and maintains current CPR certification
- Demonstrates tact, patience, and good personal hygiene
- Successfully completes a probationary period
- This probationary period is to ensure the aide is competent in the above qualifications and is documented by the supervisor and the employee
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Good organizational skills
